lol... i ment wot time at nite as in how long b4 i go to bed shud i take it?

I use to take it at 9pm, 50mg, but was having real trouble in the morning, not great in the mornings as it is. So after a question on here a few months back, someone suggested 12 - 13hr before you want to get up.

It has really helped me in the mornings, and also helped the restlessness feeling before bed a little. Put it this way if I am late taking it i notice.

Worth a try , however what works for one, may not work for another, so if you are in doubt just speak your gp or pharmacist, good luck. Lou x

I take it before i go to bed usually about 9 and then i watch telly for an hour then i get up at 7 30. but when i frist started i took it at 7 as it can make you groggy in the morning.

I am having a late one tonight but it still usually takes an hour to get full effect.

Also if it is still there in the morning it helps me loads with the morning stiffness too, so you will have to weigh up your self whats best for your body.

hope it goes well, good luck.

I personally think each case tends to be different, I take 75mgs Amitriptyline without any ill effects. I was put on a lower dose to start with 25mgs then 50mgs and now the 75mgs. I take the full dose as prescribed whenever I go to bed. It has helped with the stiffness I get in the mornings, makes it easier to get out of bed. I think it's also helped me relax in bed whereas this was impossible before, and I do get quite big snatches of sleep thankfully. I used to be awake all night before. When I am more relaxed it helps me manage my pain levels better, so all in all I think the Amitriptyline helps me at this dosage. :) I hope it works well for you too Maddonna! :)

it works on a 12 hour cycle so what ever time you get up usually in morning take the Amitriptyline 12 hrs before,, this helps take away the groggy hungover feeling this drug can cause( clinical specialist of physiotherapy told me this ) it works for me, you may find at the start that it makes you very sleepy within an hour of taking it but that soon diminishes as you become used to it. sorry i've posted too late for you tonight . wishing you a restful painfree sleep. & all other fibro sufferers.xx

hi i take it at about 9 pm i go to bed at 11 pm but does nt toucch me went up to 3x a night still noyhing but hope it works for you love diddle x

I take it 1-2 hours before I sleep, I always feel groggy in the morning no matter what time I take it but it beats the itchey uncomforatble stretchy feelings I used to get before I started taking it.

I take all my evening meds around 9-10pm unless I am well enough to go out, then I take it on the way home. I take 75mgs too, and trazadone, it seems to work 'as well as can be expected'

The muscle-relaxant properties from amitryptilline were discovered by accident, they discovered that patients who took it for depression were seen to have a remarkable improvement in muscle aches and pains.

I have been taking amitripyline for about 12 years now, 50mg at bedtime. When I went to a pain clinic 3/4yrs ago the consulant increased it to 75mg.

Initially I put on a bit of weight but thats all. Most of the time I seem to sleep quite well, not much pain in the morning but usually quite stiff and slow. Have tried coming off to see whether it is really doing anything but reducing the dose (slowly) leads to all sorts of problems so now I just keep taking them and fingers crossed.

Another minor problem - I am being investigated for prostrate cancer at the moment. Amitriptyline has a side effect of causing water retention so it masks whether I should be in and out of bed for a pee !

I've just started nortryptaline, which is in the same drug family, and I'm finding that this is helping me, though it might not help others. I tend to take mine about 7pm and sometimes I do wake up hungover, but pain isn't as bad...

Might be worth speaking to your doctor about it... xx
