Hello, I`ve been in chronic pain for many years and I`ve been prescribed Co-codamol. I need to see my GP to ask if I might be prescribed a more effective painkiller. I wpould greatly appreciate any help or advice as to what might be available to me on the NHS. Many thanks

ADVICE ON PAINKILLERS
Have you tried asking your pharmacy for advice they know more about prescription medicines than a GP who is allowed to prescribe them.
I would say the same thing, Bennett. If you can't see a GP and mine became invisible a year ago, you can fill out an e consultation form and one will phone you up for a chat.
Otherwise make a medication review appointment with your pharmacy. Then follow up with your Dr. The doctor should have done one by now but they can be hit and miss. They are always inconvenient and they never listen. But sometimes one does and if you tell them you saw the pharmacy and they said such and such is more suitable that wakes them up.
Co codamol are great for some kinds of pain, like general arthritis but there are much better options. It also makes your poo reluctant to come out which is good for my husband as he only has one third of a colon. Long term they are not good. A good chat about the condition and how your medication affects you can be very useful. I got two problems resolved after seeing the pharmacy and my doc changed them. Its worth a go.
