Duloxetine and nortiptyline

Hi All, I am new here and really benefitted from reading through all the posts. I was diagnosed with fybro a few years ago and have been on 10mg nortriptyline since. Things have started getting a bit worse this year and I was prescribed 10mg Duloxotene too. I am really scared to take them together. Has anyone else done this and if so, have you had any negative reactions? Also do you take them together as in both at night or the Duloxetine in the morning. Sorry for all the questions.

Hi Bethoozala , and welcome to the forum. I’m glad that you’re making yourself at home reading all the posts.

It’s horrible when you are given new medication and you have that worry wondering how it will affect you.

On the assumption that the Dr who prescribed your meds, knows your history, and if you’re taking any other medicine that might interact with your new meds, it should be ok as Drs and Pharmacists have tools on their computers that would warn of any reasons not to prescribe a particular medicine. Also I hope the Dr talked to you a bit about how you would benefit from adding Duloxetine to your prescription.

Your Dr will have prescribed a dose that he/she thinks will help, and it is a very small dose. Look at the label on the box, or bottle, and it should say there how and when to take it. Some people take Duloxetine at night, some in the morning.

If it were me, and I was afraid to add another medicine, and I have been in your situation, I would take it in the morning. The reason being, I felt if I were to have some weird reaction to it, I wouldn’t be asleep, and I would be aware of it. Remember though, that’s me. The flip side is you may benefit greatly from taking it.

If you’re still scared to take your new pill, have a word with your Pharmacist, they can reassure you.

Good luck.

😊😊.

It is totally normal to be scared of taking another pill. I look at it as a "test" that's worth trying because 1) adequate safety data of the drug has proven that it won't harm you, and that side effects do go away should you discontinue the medication. There is practically no risk of long term harm. 2) your symptoms have gotten worse, so a new drug may just be the key to reverse that worsening set of symptoms. Why not give it a chance? Please remember though that all medications take time to get "incorporated" with your system. Deluxitine can take up to four weeks to see it's maximum benefit, and often the dose is to be built up gradually. Because of this you must ask your prescribing doctor the specifics of usage. Don't follow what any of us on the forum do with this med because our prescription may be very different from yours for many reasons.

A big cyber hug to you and I am looking forward to hearing great improvement you get from this new prescription! Fingers crossed!

I take both in the early evening so that I don't get spaced out during the day, but your GP or pharmacist is the best person to ask as they know you specifically.

Hi Bethoozala, I take duloxetine 30 mg mid morning and I am fine on it.I don't take any other tablets, apart from paracetamol

I did try 60mg and then 90mg but I did get side affects.

I don't think they help with the pain, but they lift my mood so that I don't

get depressed.

I think I have tried every pill there is for this horrible complaint and I had to many

side affects with them all and have just learnt to live with it.

Hope this helps in some way, Good luck.
