I have been taking this for the last 5 months, I am having 45mg per day and honestly I think that it makes my mental health a hell of a lot worse. Its meant to have sedation effects to allow you to sleep but im experiencing the total opposite

HelloI am on day 6 of 25mg mirtazapine. Was supposed to help with sleep. It hasn't so far. How long did it take to start working?

Thanks

It hasn't worked for me at all, I was diagnosed with bipolar shortly after writing that reply so it was the total wrong sort of medication for me to have been prescribed in the first place.

It has now been lowered down to 30mg and I have been prescribed lamotrigine 200mg a day and lorazepam when needed, they are going to taper me off mitrazapine eventually and im glad 🙂

It did t suit me at al, had bad side effects but I have to be honest no antidepressants suit me so it is probably just me. I stuck it out for 6 weeks but they didn't help with sleep or fibro. Of course everyone is different and it has helped some people.

I've been on it for several years, initially it was for depression and sleep .... However, I discovered a couple of years ago when trying to come off to change to a different antidepressant that it was helping a lot with my leg pain, so stayed on it x

Why did you want to change? If I may ask - was it for some side effects? Also, did you gain weight or felt swollen?

I was having issues with severe nausea , and gastro consultant wanted me to try sertraline, to see if that helped nausea. I did gain weight at beginning

Hi. My mom has taken it for years without side effects so far.

With every meds it’s a trial basis because we are all unique beings we all respond differently.

What seems like a blessing to some is a curse to others. Just have to try it and see how you go with it.

There are always other meds if it doesn’t work.

Best wishes take care and be safe.

I was prescribed it a few years ago, I took it for 2 days only, as had terrible nightmares each night , once stopped the nightmares stopped on third night. My GP said they’d never heard of anybody else having nightmares......I didn’t care about the others - I certainly wasn’t taking them again.Take care x

It did happen to me to! It my first week and the nightmares are worse I ever had. A mix of my traumas, my paranoias and other. I was impressed myself too but I thought my brain was probably processing the crises I had. Hope you feel better x

I take 30mg and found it did help my depression (I also take 2 other ADs). No side effects for me thankfully.

Can I ask what others you are on? I’m on Cymbalta and the want me to start the Remeron. How did you come about to be on three? Thank you!

Morning, I was on Mirtazipine for four months at a 15mg dosage. Initially, I slept much better and was much more calm. Then, I developed a massive appetite for carbs and put on half a stone in about a fortnight. Additionally, my mood darkened and I was sleeping far too much (12/13 hours a day). It didn't alleviate any of my symptoms and I came off them, despite my then-GP trying to encourage me to up my dose, and to combine them with amatriptyline. I tried this for one day and honestly felt as if I was descending into a deep depression. I haven't taken them, or any other anti-depressant since.
