From what I have read, Gulf War syndrome is thought to be caused by chemicals the servicemen and women came into contact with so I think it could just be a conincidence. I have been told that I was rpobably born with FMS as my consultant checked right back through my medical history from birth to now and told me all the illnesses I have had can be attributed to FMS
Mine is from trauma, both my nan and mum. I know two people who had MS from trauma also. My trauma was a result of a really bad childbirth. I suppose the gulf war syndrome is a result of trauma also with very similiar symptoms.
Meant to say both my nan and mum had FM. Long ago they called it rheumatism but by mum was diagnosed with FM when she was 65.
Even now some doctors dont know much about FM and they call it fibrositis or tendonitis. Its only if patients persist they get referred to a Rheumy. If we are diagnosed early we can manage our symptoms much better and the not knowing whats wrong is more frustrating.
