Low dose amitryptiline

Wondered if anyone else had had a reduction in pain with amitryptiline. I am currently taking 5mg in 2.5ml liquid. I found that there are far fewer side effects and the liquid version more effective than the tablets. Also helps with sleep

I cannot use your antidepressant but use Citalopram .I consider taking it towards night time gives a chance to get some sleep and therefore do not feel as much ache 1st thing the following morning.

I use amitriptyline but now in 50mg, plus Duloxetine plus on antidepressant mirztapine. They have helped ease the pains and helping me get some sleep. But still feeling exhausted all the time. X

Hi I started on low dose of amotriptyline then ended up on 50 mg , the increased dose was to help with sleep. Recently I decided to gradually decrease due to side effects, aked me quite miserable and put on weight so rather loose sleep or try something else x

I have amytriptaline 10 mg it seemed to help with body pain but gave me a migraine everyday, I stopped taking it but my GP said I need to keep taking it but I'm scared of migraine attacks.

Hi Moominx2000, I started on 10mg Amitriptyline and had it gradually increased to my current dose of 75mg (50mg +25mg tablets) I sleep better and pain is more or less under control. ( I also take Vit D, Folic Acid and have B12 injections every 8 weeks (for Pernicious Anaemia). I recently ran out of 25mg tablets while away from home looking after my mum, following her hip replacement. Even though I had my 50mg tablets, within days the pain returned especially in my legs but as soon as I got a prescription and got back to my full 75mg the pain went back to 'I can live with this'. It's taken trial and error, and a great GP but 75mg Amitriptyline helps me with the pain and sleep. The only side effect is a dry mouth and I can live with that.

I hope you get the level of Amitriptyline that's best for you. It doesn't suit everyone but it works for me.
