Pilates!

Hi everyone. I am wondering if anyone can give me advice on the Pilates that I do each week. I have a fab teacher who wants to help me but really has me stretching all my painful muscles. I am very sore for days afterwards and seem to be having far more fatigued bad days. Could this be that the Pilates is too much for me?

Hi mcglada0 usually any excercise is very helpful it does depend on the type of exercise.

If you are unsure i would do some research on the mother site fmauk.org or speak to your GP for advice.

Good luck my friend

Thanks. I think that I might be overdoing the exercise on my good days. Just can't get to grips with pacing although my life is so limited just now with the constant pain and fatigue. Hope you are having a better time.

Be very careful with Pilates as it can cause damage. I had very very experienced instructors who had training in physio and other types of therapies. A friend who was at the same studio ended up with muscle damage in her upper body which a chiropractor fixed. I have also injured my muscles and strained my joints which my chiropractor is now working on. My chiro is not against Pilates but she sees an awful lot of people with injuries caused by doing it.

Needless to say I have given it up, it's a shame because I really enjoyed doing it but like you I had lots of pain after a class so something was not right.

Thanks for your reply. I love going but I'm going to really have to think if the Pilates is contributing to my constant pain and flares. Hope you are keeping relatively well.

Hi

She may be very well experienced but does she have knowledge of Fibro that's the important question.

You may want to look at Tia Chi very gentle can do at your own pace and benefits the whole body

Just a thought

Hi mcglada0

I am so truly sorry to read this my friend, and I have never done Pilates myself. I do undertake a very gentle exercise routine that my physio gave me. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Hi sorry to hear that you suffer so much pain after exercise. It may be that you are overstretching during the sessions. You should only do what you can comfortably manage so probably need to be more gentle and not over do it. Explain to the teacher as I'm sure they will understand, it seems a shame to give up completely if you enjoy it and it should be helping rather than making things worse. Take care.

Hi. Thanks so much for your text. I think you are absolutely correct. I think with the best of intentions she has probably been pushing me over my limits. I really don't want to give up so I will have a chat and hopefully I can continue with more gentle stretches. I've really been suffering last few days . So sore and fatigued! That's fibro for us! Thanks again for your caring text. X

Your welcome. Explain your problem and only do what you feel comfortable with and when you get carried away doing more, remember the bad days!! Take care.
