Can this diagnose fibromyalgia?
Hi Geraldine23 and welcome to our friendly forum. If you go to our mother site fmauk.org you will find information which is a useful guide.
I have not heard of these investigations to diagnose fibro, as far as I understand fibro is diagnosed when all other rheumatic conditions have been tested and come back negative.
It is true that neuropathy can be a symptom for many people but there are other symptoms as well like extreme fatigue, all over pain, IBS, insomnia, dizziness, headaches, thyroid problems and more. Some members have all of these symptoms, others have less. It seems no two people experience the same which makes it hard to get a definite diagnosis and why for some it can take years to get an answer to their symptoms.
May I suggest you lock your post. We take security seriously and an unlocked post means replies are unlocked too, which means your personal information can be seen over the whole internet.
Instructions on how to lock your post is in blue on the right in Pinned Posts.
It is worth getting into the habit of doing this with every post ans you will get more replies too.
Wishing you all the best for your tests.
Kay
Hi Geraldine23,
I had the nerve tests last week but there was a note from my rheumatologist not to do the needle and muscle one. I was told it was to check that my nerve endings were not completely damaged and to rule out MS as it has similar symptoms to Fibromyalgia and that I have very weak muscles in my legs, arms and shoulders. Have not had a result as yet though.
All the best

Hi there
As far as I am aware there is no definitive test for Fibromyalgia.
I would have thought (but I am not a medical professional) that the test you are talking about would rule out MS.
Your best bet would be to ask your GP for a referral to see a Rheumatologist. They are the Consultants that specialise in Fibromyalgia.
If you take a look at our mother site you can find a list of common Fibromyalgia symptoms on there fmauk.org
Please do come back to us if you find out anything from these tests as I am sure we would all be very interested to know.
Wishing you less pain and more peace

Hello Geraldine can I ask if you have any other illness? I had n.c.studies 2 years ago following a subarachnoid which the neurologist believed had been caused by a nasty fibro flare up in the muscles at the back of my neck, these 2 muscles divide into a "V" shape under the skull and go up into area protecting brain, they had trapped blood vessel thus giving off an acute migraine..never had those before...I now take sumatriptine to stop the onset of any more migraine affecting those 2 muscles from inflaming and causing a vessels block..the studies will be good to help with areas unusual for fibro..
Hi Geraldine23
I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck with your tests and please take care of yourself my friend.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
