I'm new to the group. I was diagnosed with fybromyalgia 3 months ago and struggling badly. Doctors have prescribed me Gabapentin and Morphine but I'm still struggling with pain and fatigue.
Anyone got any tips to help I'm only 26 years old and feeling like my life is ruined.

Hi and welcome!! Sorry to hear of your diagnosis at such a young age.It sounds like your dr. has you on good pain med but the fatigue is something else. Some chose to pace I like to get all I do do done and then have the remaining time to rest.We are all different. Take care.Hope to chat later.Peck🐤
Yes you are young feel for you. I know this extreme pain but mine tended to ebb and flow. Gabapentin wasn't about when I was diagnosed well it might of been but wasn't used. I wonder how they decide to use a drug that is meant for Epilespsy is hoing to help Fibro. I'm no expert though. I was given Amytriptyline much to strong and I couldn't function. I coped with paracetamol & Ibuprofen from the doctor.
It is a pain like no other. Maybe you have yet to settle and that you go through good phase I did. Also, if you feel the drugs are not helping go and have a good chat with your doctor and get what's suits you best. Tell him how you feel exactly! Also, try and get a referral to pain management dont just sit back and say this is me I've got to put up with it.
Yes you will have the pain and fatigue but you will learn that you will have good and bad on the bad just fall into it and don't push it.
Once again I'm so sorry you have this at such a young age we are here to help and support you.
Hi diet plays a huge part on my fibromyalgia symptoms - try and eat very healthy no processed foods just fish fruit veg and white meats - I also don't eat gluten/wheat - and my fatigue is so much better - use to nap everyday now about twice a week - I wish you luck sorry to see another new person on here - it means more people are getting fibromyalgia x
Welcome to the forum 😊 I can imagine how confused you are feeling at the moment. If you take a look at our mother site you will find lots of interesting information fmauk.org

Do you mind me asking who diagnosed you? Did you see a Rheumatologist? They usually, when diagnosing Fibromyalgia, prescribe Amitryptyline? This drug is used for pain, help sleeping and low mood.
It can make you feel quite groggy the next day BUT if you take it at around 6pm, rather than just before bed, this does stop the groggy feeling being so bad.
There are other meds that your GP can prescribe for you, but personally I feel it would be best to have this discussion with your GP. It is important to only try one new med at a time, otherwise you won't know what is helping and what isn't.
Your GP can refer you to a Pain Management Clinic. However, as you are fairly newly diagnosed I don't know whether your GP may want to wait a little while before referring you. Again this is a discussion best had with your GP.
You will find everyone on the forum very friendly and supportive.
Wishing you less pain and more peace

Hi
Sorry to hear that at a young age you have fibro. Please don't feel that your life is over.
Have you read the mother page for info or the NHS web page?
Has your dr got you into a pain management prog yet? They can help you manage it, offer alternative treatments like acupuncture. My pain clinic said not to fight this as if it were a cold and continue as normal, you have to manage it. That means do a little and rest, then do a bit more and rest etc.
I cannot take the pain meds and use ibuprofen, Volterol gel and take extra vits especially vit d (which along with magnesium is thought we lack with fibro), magnesium. I take hemp tabs, that have chemicals in that are like marijuana, which some countries allow patients to take for it. I think they help me to relax. I use hot and cold pads as well and have the occasional gentle massage. Someone posted that having a bath with Epsom salts helped her, if yet to try that. I also take herbal sleeping tab to try to help me sleep.
A lot of us are on antidepressants, trying to cope with the kack of sleep and the pain I think makes us need this help. Although some people find it can help with their symptoms too.
Fibro is something we have to learn to cope with every day with phases of intense pain. As you are suffering badly at the moment, maybe you're going through a bad phase? Please try to rest and try to let the phase go its course, I know it's hard.
I think you'll be pleased you joined this site as everyone is very nice, helpful and supportive. You will get some helpful suggestions maybe a laugh and if you need a shoulder or two... You'll get that too.
Take care and I hope that you feel a little better soon.
I was diagnosed at 15, I am not 22 and still no Drs in my area give me the time of day I'm living off my other half left over tramadols just to get me through the day, due to my age they don't want to put me on any medication.
I know exactly how u feel with beliving your life is ruined I've thought that for years now but we just have to carry on and do the best we can I suppose.
The only tips I can give you are
1. Do whatever makes you happy
2. Keep your friends & family close
3. Keep your pets closer (if your an animal person of course).
I am so genuinely sorry to read of how you are suffering and struggling with no real help from your doctor. I was wondering if it would be worth you seeing a different doctor at your surgery or joining a new GP surgery? If you have a local ''NHS Walk In Centre'' you could always pay them a visit and talk to them about your pain?
I have pasted Shorty90 some information about TENS Machines on this thread, and I was wondering if you have ever tried one? It may be worth trying to get a referral to Physiotherapy so you could possibly give one a try?
I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.
Welcome to the forum and it is wonderful to make your acquaintance. I am so genuinely sorry to read that you are suffering and struggling so much, and I sincerely hope that you can find some resolution to these issues. I was wondering if you have ever tried a TENS Machine?
I have pasted you below an excerpt and a link to an *NHS / Arthritis Care pdf on TENS Machines, and I sincerely hope that you find it useful:
*How can I try a TENS machine?
You can ask your doctor to refer you to a physiotherapist to try a TENS machine. If
TENS helps to relieve your pain, your physiotherapist is likely to give you between
20 minutes and a couple of hours with the machine. It may take a few sessions to get
used to. TENS can be used for one hour on, one hour off, throughout day.
*How effective are TENS machines?
TENS machines are used all over the world to reduce pain and muscle spasms. You
need to try a TENS machine to see if it could help you to manage your pain. Some
people find them very helpful, while other people do not. Some people have short-
lived relief, but others find the effects last for longer. TENS machines vary in quality.
If you find that one produces a sharp or spiky feeling, try a different brand or go to a
different company.
There are also many more different medications that you could discuss with your doctor to try and ascertain the right combination for yourself. I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck, and please take care of yourself.
