Does anyone know if u can get tax credits when you get carers allowance?

i got carers allowence for my son he has bipolar but my tax credits went down

i stopped being his carer well stopped being paid as he went thru a stage where he said there was nothing wrong with him!!! luckily he realised his problems he gets middle rate till march then he was going to go for low rate but he tried to commit suicide and thats when i insisted the dr diagnosed him with bipolar not just adhd (mother had it so know all the signs!) finally diagnosed last week and put on meds so hopefully he will go on the higher one and ill then go for carers allowence as i can only work part time to make sure he doesnt harm himself
