Does anyone else on here suffer or has experienced night terrors? I've had them for about 7-8 years and stress seems to trigger them.

I've suffered with them for years and was formally diagnosed at a sleep clinic. Was told that I was very sleep deprived because they happen during the restorative part of sleep (within the first 90 minutes). My understanding with fibro is that one school of thought is sheep deprivation over time is a link so that's quite interesting for me. I'm now prescribed Clonazepam which I take for three nights following a terror and then leave it off for a while as it's highly addictive. Hope this helps, Mia :-)

Thanks Mia,

I haven't been seen in any clinic as I never put 2 and 2 together until now, I may mention it to my GP.

Thanks for the info, Vicky :)

Hi, I also have night terrors. I don't take any medication regularly (haven't managed to find anything that works and allows me to function as a human) so know its not linked to meds, but the Fibro. Unfortunately I have no idea how to stop them. But can be very scary, waking up covered in sweat and in an absolute panic. I also talk in my sleep and sleep walk, acting out my dreams!

Afraid I can't offer any advice, but you are not alone xxx

Hi,

I haven't been seen in any clinic as I never put 2 and 2 together until now, I may mention it to my GP as it seems I'm not alone and there may be something I can try to eliminate them.

nice to now I'm not alone on this never ending Fibro-rollercoaster!

I have terrible dreams, which I put down to Fibro. The most recurring dream is that I'm being forced to move home by my local council. Nobody will tell me why....rent is always paid on time, no arrears. And I always have to go back to one of the two former homes I used to live in. My late husband features in these dreams, and I'm always shouting at him!!! I've had this particular dream for many years now...my late mum used to say it's because I'm not settled! I've lived in this house for 28 years now!! I do have other bad dreams, and I'm so happy when I wake and realise they were just dreams. But very unpleasant at the time!! XX

It's always the same thing I wake up screaming, sweating and sometimes even getting out of bed whilst still asleep and it's always that spiders millions of them are crawling on the ceiling and dropping down into me & crawling all over me. When my fiancé try's to calm me I become angry saying they really are there and it takes quite some time with the light in to convince me that it is just a nightmare. Sometimes it's just once but the other night it happens 4 times throughout the night so my other half is now complaining he's exhausted at work. I've also been known to speak & have conversations with people which I don't remember after.

Sue you have described mine the only difference being I am moving into a RAF quarter and yes my Late husband is always involved. It always unsettles me and there is always a different man in my dreams too. They are always unsettling as I am at peace with my late husband and live a happy life if only it werent bombarded with pain. xgins

My sister once told me that most people have a 'man' in their dreams that they can't identify. This had only happened to me a few times though. It's weird isn't it?? I remember one dream where I was with my late hubby and we met an aunt of mine. She was astounded to see him, but I told her not to worry, it wasn't real, it was just a dream!! But I have accepted he's not here, and I also live a contented life, so what's going on I don't know!! Brain racing I suppose?? XX

Hi Trixybell :)

Have you tried deep relaxation before bed? I can't remember if you told me if you had :)

sorry hun.......... blame the fog!

Is there any medication that you take that you possibly started 7-8 yrs ago involved in your night terrors?

I get them but mine are weird and I don't tend to discuss them much as they really are frightening :( touch wood I haven't had one for a while now :)

Mine involve crimes usually with me as a witness and then being chased by gangs and troops to kill or execute me. I always wake up just as they are about to do it. I'm talking bombs and terrorist type crimes too not petty crimes :o

No idea why I should dream such things either and have only ever discussed them with my counsellor. Had them since being about 20yrs old and was so afraid of being admitted to the psych hospital because of the depression etc too that I kept my mouth shut. Back then they would have done it too :(

I would dream something and wake up the next day and read it the paper to the point I recognised faces and buildings, which is another reason why I kept my mouth shut :o They still liked to fry your brain back in those days.

Okay now that's out the bag I'm going to do some breathing exercises and relaxation I feel creeped out :o

:) xxxsianxxx :) calming fluffies for you hun xx

Hey Chicken,

The ones you have by far sound much worse and more frightening than mine. (thankfully they sound awful You poor thing!)

No 7-8 years I was completely medication free and it's only within the last 18 months I have had to started taking any regular medication so I don't think it's my meds. It seems to only happen if I'm really stressed about something or extremely stupid tired. Which is only now and again thankfully, the majority of the time it's just the norm chronic fatigue I suffer from.

It may be at the moment I'm in more than the normal level of pain I feel with my having my recent op. My knees have been really really bad this week since Monday. It could just be the pain and that I can only eventually get to sleep through pure exhaustion as I'm so worn out by that point.

When I go to bed I tend to read something light hearted before bed, only for half hour or so as I find some light reading really calms me before bed. Also as I say it's not every night sometimes I will get 3 in a night or one or two in a week but then it can be weeks and even months between having them, there's not really any rhyme or reason to it.

But hey ho that's Fibro life ha ha :)) xx

i have had night terrors on and off for 35 yearsmine are that a black facaless shadow is pressing down on me and my arms are pinned underneath me, i had them a lot years ago when my husband worked nights but in my dream he was in bed with me but i couldnt wake him, then other times when he was asleep beside me in the dream he wasen't there, in the dream i was screaming and strugling but when i wake up i haven'made a sound or moved and my arms are laying on top of the covers, i am also aware it is a dream and try to make myself wake up.

I haven't had any since i was diagnosed with fibro but i also conected it to me eating cheese at night.

Hi Trixiebell,

I have had night terrors since the age of 14 (now50), stress does make them worse but so can medication. Also anything that triggers old memories can bring them on. Listening to relaxation cd's before sleeping helps keep them at bay. Hope this is of some help.
