Ok have you tried hot and cold compresses on it and maybe sleeping with tube grip on. I often do this as i also helps stop swelling of the ankle at night.

Good luck take it gently xgins

Hi Coolfox, your doctor may well be correct. I have torn the ligaments in both my knees, at different times thankfully, but there was no redness or swelling, just a lot of pain. You need to rest it as much as you can to give the ligament time to heal, but you also need to keep it as mobile as you can without it hurting. Gentle flexing of your foot is probably best and, as Gins suggested, hot and cold compresses. Good luck.

Your doc could be right as fibro affect the muscles, tendons, nerve endings, and ligaments, so in a sense he could be right, try what gins has suggested to see if it helps...Dee xx

Hi Coolfox

I was sceptical when my GP said I had damaged Achilles' tendon, many years ago, and I was sent for physio. The exercises I was given definitely got rid of that pain which kept me awake through the night.

Something I was told at the time was that if ibuprofen/heat gel eased a pain then it probably wouldn't be fibro. Not entirely convinced about that though.

Good luck.

i had very painful ankles last yr. it was all at the back in the tendons, with no redness or swelling and it was worse when i got out of bed in the morning or if i'd been still for too long. they were also very stiff and painful to touch. was told it was achilles tendonitis and given gel inserts for my shoes and excercises. it took a while but it gradually eased off.

i don't know but i'd have thought you're ankle wouldn't work properly if you'd torn the ligament iyswim whereas with tendonitis you still have movement but i hurts like hell.

maybe a second opinion from another doc would help.

My ankles and feet swell up at night so my GP told me to keep them elevated and this stopped the swelling. As for the pain. I tend to lay on my left side (as have back injury) and keep right leg elevated on pillows and this helps with any pain but I have to keep my legs straight and no bending them.

Take care and I hope you get this sorted.
