cbt ?
I have had CBT through my GP, but I do believe you can also have it through the pain clinic, im' sure someone will be along to give you better info
I have been but unfortunately just did not work for me. However, my husbands experience was much more positive.
Everyone is different.
Good luck.
I only had it through the g.p and will be starting it again soon xxx
Hi Broadband
I have been on CBT courses but with MIND and with Live Well Suffolk (they were something else before), not through a pain clinic. Sorry.
Is x
Yes, I am currently doing it with the psychologist from the Pain clinic. So far I can say I am making progress and feel it is worth it. Apparently I can only have 8 one to one sessions and have two more to go but really think it has been good. I have had to make quite an effort to follow it but it's been worth it.

Hi Broadband
I spent quite a few years managing a counselling and therapy centre (long ago). CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) can be useful to some people. However, when it comes to any form of counselling the counsellor in question must take an holistic approach to the client for therapy to be successful. CBT can be deemed quite narrow and does not assess whether the client needs a softer approach such as humanistic or person centered therapy. These two options are more sitting in a chair with one-on-one getting to view your past to ascertain how we make decisions today (i.e. learning behaviour from past actions). Many clients can benefit from a more robust approach such as psychodynamics or gestalt, these entail a greater amount of personal work from the client (i.e. self-understanding through proposed questioning). Please don't let me put you off from seeking CBT if you feel that it could help you. I am merely saying that there is more than one way to reach the same goal and depending on how you view yourself as a person then it could make a difference to the end goal of the counselling. I hope that you find this useful. I also hope to bump into you again somewhere on the site.
All my hopes and dreams for you

I've had it twice, first time was for depression and the therapist was very good and it helped. That was a few years ago.
Saw a different one when diagnosed with fibromyalgia for the pain and thought it was useless.
Yes I've been going for three weeks it's all about turning a negative feeling or response into a positive. However it's early days for me. Have to wait and see. It's not easy when you live with pain day and night. I waited 6 months did several telephone interviews and was refered for intensive cbt . Everyone is different I say if it's free give it a go it might help to talk to someone who is not a family member or friend. Good luck gentle hugs xx
I am attending cbt was reluctant at first but finding it useful, as just diagnosed after over a year of struggling with 24hr pain and restrictions, of tests and various consultants. Feel I can speak my mind to my CBT psychiatrist. I can cry, show anger..things I didnt realise I find difficult not do with darling husband, family nor best friends.
