Carers Allowance

Regarding my previous post, I have just received official notification that Carers Allowance is not considered paid work for Working Tax Credit purposes, but is taxable.

sounds odd, but I guess its because CA is a benefit and WTC is only payable with a wage and not benefit. I guess its something that could be bought up with your MP requesting him to being it up at question time. you have very right to as it does sound rather unfair . xx

hello missymoomoo, do you know whether you could claim WTC with carers allowance in the past as I'm sure I was advised I could, but had to pay back a whole year WTC when I was reviewed, and now all regulations from the past are not available to view online so I cannot check the info I was given.... feel exhausted with looking after 2 elderly ill parents in their 80s for £1.77 per hour as only paid for one! Thanks

I do not know what the current rules are, they have probably changed over the last few years. I wasn't able to claim anything other than Carers Allowance and now that I'm retired, do not receive CA payment.
