High Cost of Fertility Treatment

The Independent are doing a feature on the high cost of fertility treatment and the number of tests now offered to couples which push up the overall cost. This is linked to some comments made by Professor Winston about how expensive treatment can be but I am hoping that the feature will also highlight the lack of access to NHS treatment and the postcode lottery which so unfairly impacts on so many of you.

They would like to speak to someone who has spent a lot of money so far unsuccessfully on fertility treatment to go with the feature. I hope they will also highlight our campaign for fertility treatment to come under specialist commissioning rather than be commissioned by GPs which we believe will make the postcode lottery even more of a nightmare for patients and if you haven't already written to your MP please do use the template letter at

This feature ran in the Independent this week but has also been picked up by many of the other nationals. The Mail would like to do a follow up story and would like to speak to another patient who feels strongly about the high costs of private treatment.

we are doing ivf using donor eggs, so far for one cycle we are up to £14k, which gets us 6 mature eggs, icsi, but drugs are extra ... and of course any embys good enough to freeze will be extra...

damn right its expensive, however i console myself that our consultants are all well qualified and educated and the facilities are very nice, and i feel safe parking my car around such a nice collection of cars!!!
