Hi all. I had my right tube removed a few weeks ago for ectopic. I was doing IVF and the pregnancy was after a fresh transfer.
I've since read some studies online that have me really freaked out: apparently after having a tube removed, that side can have reduced numbers of follicles due to reduced blood-flow between the tube and ovary.
I am older (early 40s) with veryyy low egg numbers already, so it's totally made me spiral.
I'm wondering if anyone who had a tube removed (or both) and did IVF both before and after, noticed this?
Thanks so much in advance.

Hi. Then you will be pleased to know your ovaries have their own arteries and veins, so they are happy on their own circulatory system. Both ovaries will continue to produce eggs an and do not share circulation with tubes. Pineapple core can help blood circulation. Acupuncture can help blood flow to ovaries. You will have had a rough time suffering an ectopic,,' so look after yourself and go for that rainbow baby. Diane x
Thanks Diane, I really appreciate your reply. Unfortunately I have read some scientific studies (e.g. L. Chen) over the past few days that show patients retrieved 50% less eggs than before on the side the tube was removed. They think this is due to the tube-ovary blood flow that is necessarily severed. A few other studies conclude that there was no difference. So I'm feeling pretty scared. I only get 1-2 eggs per cycle! Have you ever noticed any difference in patients?
Sorry you’ve also faced this. I can reassure you though I’ve got poor response and low AMH. I was devastated and so so worried about my ectopic pregnancy being in my left tube as it’s the only ovary that really does anything with IVF for me. The right ovary barely makes 2 follicles on the highest stims. Whereas my left ovary gets around 7. I usually have 4 follicles in range for egg collection and have got 1-4 eggs retrieved historically. I’ve had 3 egg collections prior to losing my left tube and 3 following losing my left tube. There’s been absolutely no difference at all in my response before and after. Xx
I can’t tell you how grateful I am to read your reply. Thank you so so much for taking the time. So there was no difference at all in the number of eggs retrieved from your left ovary afterwards, is that right?
And I’m curious, did your doctor and/or surgeon say anything about this, or were you like me and happened to learn of the studies on your own?
Yep that’s right absolutely no difference pre and post op.
Honestly I hadn’t read the studies but I did know my ectopic pregnancy was sat close to my ovary so when going in for the emergency surgery when it ruptured I was most frightened I would lose the ovary and with it any chance because as I said my right ovary has just never done anything much in all 6 stims! xx
