Hi I am currently in my last IVF cycle. I have my embryo transfer tomorrow morning but they have advised against it as I mentioned I had a lot of discharge with a bit of a smell. I spoke to the embryologist who isn't sure my embryos will be good enough to be frozen. The smell has subsided the past few days and is not as bad as it was. They think it may be BV. Has anyone else had this?

Hi. Sorry to hear this, but you need to have a check to see what it is, so you can be treated and continue. I do hope you manage to get some embryos stored frozen for FET. Thinking of you. Diane
Hello Bel,
You can buy self BV tests over the counter in most pharmacies now. So you can always do this over the weekend and to be on the safe side get in with your GP on Monday for triple swabs.
I had something similar, when I was down regulated on Prostap and had just started my estrogen my discharge had completely changed. It was really watery and there was loads of it sorry if it's TMI, that much so I had to wear a panty liner.
The GP told me to buy a test but I refused because I said soo much was riding on it and I have had high Gardenella previously which I know can be impactful to the embryo. But to get some quick answers over the weekend you could maybe try that first? My GP did the triple swabs and they all came back clear within about 5 days. I was still experiencing the discharge so I asked the clinic and they were not concerned and said it is probably due to the hormones.
During this cycle I have been taking daily probiotics Optibac Women and also drinking Kerif several times a week as well as avoiding using scented products etc.
Hope this helps, wishing you lots of luck.
Thank you so much for your reply. I didn't even know I could buy a test over the counter. Tbh my symptoms have completely gone and it turns out I had 2 eggs suitable for freezing and a few that they will check tomorrow. So I am happy with that outcome. I will actually get a test tomorrow and test myself just to be sure. Again thank you for your help.x.
I really advocate for Optibac for women too. I started them when I was going through IVF and continued through my pregnancy. I stopped when I gave birth simply as it was an early emergency section and I hadn’t packed my hospital bag. I definately feel I missed them and old issues seemed to reappear, which since being home and back on them have gone. I now have them on subscription from optibac directly at a good price.
Oh thank you I will get some of these on my travels tomorrow as useful to start as I do suffer with a lot of issues down there for some unknown reason.x.
I am taking zitawest probiotics would this be similar to optibac?
Hi Bel 😊 I'm wishing you well with your IVF journey. I'm wondering whether you know if your tubes are blocked? I only ask as I had blocked tubes both with Hydrosalpinx! This is when toxic fluid leaks from blocked/infected fallopian tubes which can cause unusual discharge (mine was very watery and smelled) kept thinking I had BV but tests always came back fine. IVF meds can make hydrosalpinx worse. Unfortunately this condition was missed by many top health professionals (through tests and scans) and it's only after advocating for myself and fighting for surgery when I finally got my answers! Both tubes turned out to be really bad and they removed them both before my latest IVF round! This may not be the case with you but I hope my story is useful in someway x
Hi thank you for your reply. This is interesting to know. I went ahead with the embryo transfer with the lowest quality one out of my 3 embryos (was still a food grade) as the symptoms disappeared. I got my test results a week later it turned out I had bv. My embryo transfer didn't work. So now I'm taking some time off before I have my frozen embryos transferred. 😊
