private prescriptions

hey loves. Anyone have advice. My clinic uses stork pharmacy but their lubion is £145 per box (1 week), I’ve heard it’s about £56 at Asda so I requested a private prescription but they say I have to pay £250 just for the prescription. Makes me so angry considering the TENS of thousands of pounds we’ve given them. Anyone have any advice to get a private prescription for lubion cheaper? X

hey there, that does seem a ridiculously high price for a private prescription - I had to pay £50 to my clinic to get the private prescription. I then went to Asda to get all of my medication (not just the Lubion)! I would challenge them on that £250 price point, get them to explain why it’s so high, maybe see what it says on their website about the price too. Depending on how much meds you’re getting, may still be worth paying £250 (I save £1000 on all my meds by getting them all from Asda) x

Hi, yes I will look on website but they won’t budge on the price. It is worth the £250 bill but because I’m scared of miscarriage (& this is our final round) I want to buy enough drugs to get me to scan & then re-assess. They said if my drug bill was under £50 it would be free, but over £50 they charge £250. Hoping I can find someone who can write private prescriptions!

I’d be raising an issue with HFEA about this. It’s entrapping patients to charge that much and entirely unreasonable. I would honestly put a complaint in writing to your clinic’s complaints person and say you will be complaining to the HFEA about them. £50-60 is the norm. £250 for just the prescription is scandalous.

oh and I’d also check with your local Asda. I heard good things but my local one were hopeless and couldn’t help. I got my meds via The Fertility Medication Centre - you can send a copy of the list the clinic quotes you for a quote without needing an actual prescription so that you can then decide if worth paying for the private script to get the actual meds dispensed - they still send via Stork but loads cheaper. I saved £1000 once. It was well worth it for me with pricy stim meds but less so for the frozen transfer meds like lubion and clexane.

I went to Asda for lubion, utrogestan & estradiol I can't remember the exact amount I ordered but wasn't many and they charged us approx £285 I was surprised as also heard it was cheaper but this didn't seem so and they said they didn't have the individual prices. I've found the cheapest place to be Boots One Life Pharmacy (if there's one in your area). In regards to prescriptions though I'm not sure as the first lit of meds I always jst got the clinic to order via Stork but any additional after that I've gotten prescriptions (never had to pay for them).

That's odd, my clinic also used the Stork but when I was supposed to get Lubion they gave me first 7 vials which I paid hefty 🥲 but they gave me prescription for the rest without any issues od extra payment. And they even told me which pharmacy have lowest price!

Wow! I’m between a rock & a hare place as need drugs by Monday pm so if I can’t get a private prescription elsewhere today I’ll have to give them all my money (again). It just feels really unethical to not give me free choice x

Please call each pharmacy and ask them if they have it in stock first! I had a hughe problem with getting it to be honest because each pharmacy said that it's "special order" and usually it takes 3-5days to get it! I was unable to get it on time from Asda (and they also had a handling/ordering fee on top of the Lubion price) but I was lucky to get it from Tesco pharmacy because someone ordered it 2 days before and actually they resigned from taking them. Slightly higher price than from Asda (with added ordering fee). But in my case it was such a pain to get it anywhere! And I had to go back to my clinic twice to get it just few viles 🤦‍♀️ also there was so much drama with syringes. NHS pharmacy "didn't have" 2ml syringes which was just ridiculous :/ but I managed to get enough of needles and syringes from my clinic and just got Lubion viles from pharmacy. And in the end I got alergic reaction to Lubion after taking it for 2 weeks and freshly buying another 2 week supply 🙊 which of course I could not return.

that’s ridiculous. My clinic charge £50 for a prescription but only when they arrange delivery through a third party. If I want to source them myself (which I do from Asda) then they have always done it for me for free. Another way round it is to book a private gp appt (e.g igp) but you would probably need a letter from the clinic outlining what medications you need
