Hi baby dust, I used the Royal infirmary in Glasgow as a private patient (GRFC they have their own website) and due to the treatment ( we used donor eggs) they partner with a clinic in Alicante. The travel and logistics can be a little daunting when you think about going for transfers etc and needing to book flights and hotels. We found getting ourselves familiar with what flights and hotels were available on given days gave us more confidence and helped with discussions with the clinic.
Clinic also told us to not travel the day after transfer so we knew we’d be there for 3 to 4 days and tried to see it as a mini holiday but without the beach and pool for obvious reasons! Both our transfers were successful so good luck with what you decide and the clinics you go with xx
Like M_fox we self funded in the nhs clinic in Glasgow too (used donor sperm from ESB) the admin bit can be a bit of a nightmare im not going to sugar coat that! But once you get that sorted the nurses and consultants are amazing and it’s way cheaper than the other private clinics in Scotland and down south and we also looked into Barcelona and Alicante but Spain couldn’t use the donor we wanted and with adding on Travel costs etc this worked out cheapest for us too xx
Hi, I used GRFC too and had success. They are basically an NHS hospital but you pay privately and have a separate phone line (which was hard to get through initially). Good luck!x
No comment sorry re: Scottish clinics as i’m English. We’re having treatment in Athens currently x
The logistics can seem quite stressful but it’s honestly not that bad.
The clinic email me my protocol and CC in Fertility to you for medication. They contact you directly with a quote. You can order online and choose what day you want delivery
The protocol says which days of your cycle you’re to have scans. Our local private clinics are ultrasound direct and window to the womb.. not sure if you have those near you?
I email the scan reports over to the clinic and they get back to me via email or txt regarding next steps.
We always pre book accommodation with free cancellation so if anything changes we don’t lose £££. When we first started in Athens the clinic sent us a welcome back with local accommodation. The clinic has its own facebook page so it’s good to post on there and ask for advice re: accommodation/things to do etc xx
It’s 100% worth it.. I wouldn’t encourage anyone to have treatment in the U.K.. the care is diabolical compared to abroad xx
Hey Babydust - was at the NHS facility in Aberdeen (paying as am single) using ESB. No success and the whole process was very very very slow (took 3 years to do IUI due in part to COVID) but there were some nice staff. Now at a private London clinic which as been alot quicker but ...twice the price. Logistically been okay as at the end of the day when my cycle started I was only a train ride or flight away and my lovely cousin has let me stay with her for months on end... I also looked into Alicante, Spain but didn't like the donor sperm situation. So if this isn't an issue for you getting some natural vit d might be the way forward if youre nearer Ed/ Glasgow as flights at least a bit cheaper/ available. Happy to share details of London clinic if you'd like but am of two minds about them! Good luck xx
There is only one private clinic in Scotland in Glasgow( GCRM) it has satellite clinic in Edinburgh and maybe Aberdeen. All the rest are the 4 NHS clinics (Glasgow Royal, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen) that you can use to self fund with them. I used a clinic in North Greece and the travelling from Glasgow was long and difficult but once I knew what to book it was OK.
