due to a mutation in the a1298c heterozygous and a history of cleft palate n lip in my last child who i lost Fetal medicine told me to stsy on 5mg throughout my next pregnancy for 12 weeks.

Have my embryo transfer soon so i am spiralling and stressinf about whats going to be right or wrong

Everywhere i have read says take methylfolate and im so torn. So ive decided to take

800 mcg folic acid

800 mcg methyl folate per day

Plus natural folates in my diet

And then 5mg of folic acid on just saturdays just to cover my back and babies health.

Worried about the implications of babies health as ive taken it for a year during ttc . So my stores should be ok .

Hi

I think what you've decided is a good idea. But I do notice you've asked the same / similar question several times over the last few days and it indicates you are extremely anxious about all of this. The best advice I can give you is to reach out to your doctor to discuss all of this and also to discuss your anxiety. There are lots of people on here who have this variation of MTFHR who have had healthy babies. I know it's not easy when you've had a loss, particularly a late loss (I've had a loss myself at 15 weeks and it was very traumatic) but I think maybe you need reassurance from a professional who can put your mind more at ease that us ladies can do on here x x

Sorry you're feeling so anxious about all this, it's really natural to get a bit worried, but I would simply do whatever your clinic has advised - if they say 5mg folic acid, then take that. If you have a more specific question about type, put that question to the clinic and then do what they say. I wouldn't take a higher dose than they recommend, particularly if you haven't run it past them first and been given the go ahead, because it's still possible to take too much, even though it's just a vitamin. Also, we don't keep 'stores' of folic acid and this is why we need a regular daily dose.

Not what you're looking for?
