Cycle of IVF

Hello everyone,

I have a question about the IVF (in vitro fertilization) process. If, during an IVF cycle, I produce multiple eggs (let's say three), which one will the clinic use for implantation? And what happens to the other two eggs if they are in good condition? Will they be frozen for future use, and does that still count as part of the same IVF cycle?

Additionally, if I need to go to a private clinic for IVF, how does the pricing typically work? Would I be charged for each embryo implantation separately, or is it included in the overall cost of the IVF cycle?

Thank you for any insights or experiences you can share.

Clinics use a grading system to determine the best embryo. It'll be transferred. If the others are good quality they'll be frozen.

Once you've had an egg collection that is seen as an IVF cycle.

Depending on your clinic or package frozen transfers may be included. Access fertility for example include frozen transfers but going direct with the clinic does not include them.

My clinic charged a seperate fee for the transfer of each frozen embryo, unless the freezing (rather than fresh transfer) was for medical reasons on their advice (eg OHSS risk).

So it’s not your eggs they put back in you for a transfer it’s an embryo so with IVF all the eggs they collect will be checked to see if they are mature and then the mature ones will be placed with the sperm (if IVF) or injected with the sperm (if ICSI) and left overnight to see if they fertilise. The ones that fertilise they then watch them until day 5 to see if they develop as they should. They then chose the one that looks the best quality to transfer back fresh and any others that have developed enough to be used in the future are frozen. If it’s nhs funding it depends where you live what they class as a round. In Scotland where I live a fresh round and any frozen embryos transferred from that same round all transfers class as the one round but I know in England that’s not always the case.

Private prices range from ~£6k-12k for an egg collection and £2k-£3k for a frozen transfer totally depends on the clinic and the protocol and meds you need.

Hope that helps x
