ivf medication costs ..

Hi,

I’ve just paid for my stimulation medication, with the same company I’ve ajways got them from but through a different clinic.

I just got Fostimon …it was £316 a box of 10 in November. But I just paid £500 a box of 10. Was a bit of a shock , everything was over 40% more which seems crazy. Got a bit of a shock with the bill . My fostimon alone was £2200 and I’ll probably need more . 🤯

Even my trigger which was around £50 last year was £100 .

I can’t seem to find any clinic or company online to compare the prices .

I didn’t factor in the price increase so I’m trying to figure out how we can continue . 😕

Any help or knowledge of any other company I’d be grateful

Thanks x

Hi Rol,

Have you tried Asda? They’ve usually worked out cheaper for me. I normally give my local Asda pharmacy a call and ask what the prices are of the particular items I need.

I usually used them or the Fertility Medication Centre and they’ve been fairly similar.

Hope you manage to source things cheaper- the costs for this kind of stuff are just crazy!!

X

Thanks. My consultant had already sent the prescription to this company and I needed it quickly.

I wish I’d known the price increase, nearly cried but didn’t 😕 . I did mention us to my consultant , she was shocked too so she said she look into it 🤞 Annoyed more that it’s literally the same thing I’m getting but double the price , doesn’t seem ethical or fair to do that.

I’ll ring Asda when they open today. And I’ll look into the other place you mentioned now. Thanks a mil xx

This sucks ☹️ The cost of the meds threw me off on our most recent round too. I just hadn't factored in that they would cost that much. Since it was donor eggs I thought it would be far cheaper than it was.No advice sorry, but I feel for you. This process just never gets any easier, does it!! 😬🙄 xx

Hi. I found that Asda was the cheapest for IVF meds. They only charge cost-price. I sometimes had to buy from pharmacies near Harley Street when I needed meds at vv short notice, and they literally charged double the price compared to Asda. It’s outrageous. Hope you manage to sort it out x

P.S. Are you sure those price rises are from the company itself? Do you think they might charge different prices according to which fertility clinic the prescription comes from, i.e. could your clinic be taking a commission? Sorry, this might be a mad theory!

Hi x yeah I thought that too. But when I mentioned it to my consultant she was shocked, said it should have been the same as my previous nhs clinic prices.

She said she will look into it. I’ve already paid now but I will be sourcing somewhere else next time 😢 thanks x

Asda was hopeless for me locally. Didn’t even try. I guess it depends on staff on.

I got mine through ‘the fertility medication centre’ - they’ll quote based on list of meds (usually the quote you’ve had from your ivf clinic) and don’t need official signed prescription for a quote, so you can check if worth it, before paying for the private prescription from the clinic (£60 at mine for the piece of paper 🙄). They’ve generally been cheaper with stims but not always with FET.

Thank you. I’ve already paid this time for stims 😕 but at least I know for next time.

I’ve emailed the above company you and others mentioned too , I’ll defo not be using the same company again .

Thanks x
