Is it ok to TTC before IVF?

I’m having my second short protocol cycle later this month. Starting with norithisterone on days 19-27 and then stims on 2nd/3rd day of bleed which would be expected a few days after coming off the norithisterone. Is it dangerous to TTC around ovulation this month? Nurses at clinic said it’s fine, but the World Wide Web says norithisterone should never be taken when pregnant? Obviously the stims themselves wouldn’t be an issue as I wouldn’t be taking them until a bleed.

that’s odd the clinic have said it’s fine. Mine always say to use protection or abstain from the first day of your period in the cycle norethisterone is started because there is no data on safety in pregnancy.

Best of luck with your cycle

My NHS clinic first time around said abstain but I thought that was pretty ironic given how long we'd been TTC without ever having a BFP. I've seen a few posts on here about women who did get pregnant during down reg and it may even be that the meds helped them (I think especially if they had endo) and I think they were ok. Plus women do forget to take the pill or it doesn't work etc and so they're pregnant and on the pill and again ok. Plus norethisterone is I think just a type of progesterone. The clinic did do urine pregnancy test before starting other meds and you could do that, but I think the risk is taking meds that aren't proved safe when you're unknowingly pregnant and is it worth that risk if it did happen - if it didn't work you may blame yourself plus you'll likely worry a lot if you think there's a possibility you are pregnant and again is it worth it to put yourself through that for the sake of a month or so when chances may be slim. But I got pregnant for the first time ever naturally in 10 years TTC waiting to start a FET, so it can happen.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. As you say, it obviously can happen… it’s just deciding whether it’s worth the (seemingly very unknown) risk!
