thanks for sharing! I’m listing in and would be keen to hear what others think about nk cell testing. It’s clear this expert doesn’t see value in it but I see women on this forum having succcess after immune treatment!

I’m trying to square in my head why this may be - perhaps large scale studies are lacking? Perhaps it only benefits a minority of women with RIF?

Keen to hear what others have learnt or experienced! I do a lot of manic googling and reading of papers but I can’t make my mind up on this one .

I went to Tommy's recurrent miscarriage & implantation failure clinics and was told nk cell testing was useful but it is not the case that they kill embryos in the basic sense I thought it was! My issue seems to be my immune system, and therefore advised to take steroids instead

That’s really intersting, thanks for sharing. How did they work out was an immune issue? Which tests helped inform that? Hope you are doing well x

They run scans with blood tests & an endometrial biopsy. Here’s a link to their tests and the 4 markers they’re reviewing - warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/med/r...

It was my acupuncturist who suggested my immune system might be the issue before this, as I have eczema, asthma, food allergies and now IBS, and the Warwick team concurred so it’s been good to get answers….hopefully!

Thank you! I will look into that. I’ve wondered if I have immune issues as I come from a sibling set where we all have some form of ezcma / food allergy / asthma. I’m pleased you’re getting answers. I can imagine how frustrating it is for the journey to take so long with curve balls like these x

That’s me too - I have the full house and was called an “allergic personality” as a child 🤣🤣

I’m honestly so grateful to the Tommy’s clinic and professor Brosens - they also helped my friend get her daughter after *11* losses so thankfully she put me onto them after my 2 chemicals. They’re thorough, they’re incredibly knowledgeable and the money spent goes back into their research into recurrent miscarriage failure so it felt like the right place for me to get more answers. Although given my acupuncturist was correct, it would have been cheaper to listen to her re my inflammatory responses, allergies and overexcited immune system 🤣🤣

Allergic personality! 🤣

Oh gosh, I can’t even imagine going through 11 losses. Your poor friend to have got to that stage. It’s great to hear they have had a helpful impact for you both. I had been considering paying for the expensive immune panel of tests with the London specialists but everything I hear about Dr Bronsens makes me think his clinic should be first port of call. May I ask if the tests had to be done at a specific point in your cycle ? I will be juggling this around egg collection and FET! X

Yes they did, the first test I did at 7 days post ovulation, the 2nd I did (to see if results are consistent) 9 days post ovulation. When you get your positive ovulation test, they advise you when to travel to them. Good luck with your investigations 🤞🏻🤞🏻

I have had 5 failed transfers and 1 chemical. My clinic do not recommend NK cell testing (EMMA/ALICE), and say there’s no proven research to say what the optimum level is or when to test as levels fluctuate throughout your cycle. My clinic prescribe me prednisolone (steroids) now as this would I think be the treatment anyway.

Also been told by someone who referred to Tommy’s and wa told the tests aren’t recommended.

Good to know! Makes me think it’s best and cheaper for a consultant to prescribe the steroids (so long as they don’t come with too many risks) and skip all the expensive testing … best of luck, hoping steroids are the missing piece for you x

My clinic only put me on 10mg as they deem that safe but I think bothers are on 20mg. Every consultant obviously has their own views. Unfortunately last time I had steroids, Clexane, contractions scan, embryo glue and HCG wash and still BFN 😓

Hoping 7th times a charm as was my dad’s lucky number….

Fingers crossed! It had to be your turn soon, especially considering how proactive you’ve been with this extra testing … it’s all so random and unfair at times x

Oh it’s tough being the one who it didn’t work for first time! You will have to be next time and take confidence in the fact it worked for your friend - why not you too? X

Yes, but 7th times a charm 🙈. As she knows how I’m feeling and totally gets it it’s a little easier. She knows when I’m silent, why! And I’m lucky to have another massive cheerleader for it to be my time next!

Thanks so much for sharing this - I found the talk and the other content on his page really useful!

Have you listened to the Big Fat Negative podcast? That’s where I first heard him. Glad he’s now independent of a clinic and can give advice freely 👏🏻

No I’ve not listened to that either! Always looking for new information to consume so might check it out… that is great he is independent - makes his advice so much more worthwhile. Thanks so much again :)
