Karotyping blood test and utter despair

Hi all, I hope you're all managing through the holiday season ok.

We got our pgt-a results back. We have 6 normal embryos and 6 abnormal embryos. However, the same chromosomal issues came up in 4 out of the 6 abnormal embryos so we have been recommended to have karotyping blood tests to see if either one of us is a carrier of the chromosomal issues and has a balanced translocation which could cause issues in the embryos that were normal. Essentially any baby born to us could either be healthy; have severe health issues; we could keep having miscarriages or have stillborn babies and at higher risk of this. It could also explain why we've had two miscarriages. Big sigh. It could also be a complete coincidence that 4 of the abnormal embryos had the same chromosomal issue. Results for the blood test take 4 weeks approximately. Did anyone else have karotyping testing done? Feeling utter despair about another curveball. Xx

Hi love, I had the test done as one of the clinics (not the one I ended up using), was surprised by how low my AMH was for my age. It is just a blood test, but the wait for the results was horrible and I felt really down, so I completely understand how you feel. Sending you love and strength while you wait 💕

Thanks so much for your message Habibi87. Sorry your AMH was low.The wait really is horrid and knowing we could have chromosomal issues that we pass onto a baby is truly upsetting.

Thank you for your good wishes and I wish you all best on your journey. Xx

hey lovely, I just wanted to put another spin on it to say it’s amazing you have 6 euploids!

So crap you have another wait, but also awesome you got the testing and are having the investigations done to help you know what’s what. We had testing on our donors (using donor embryos) and it took ages but was good for piece of mind. At least you will have answers and can move forward with confidence whatever the outcome.

Sorry is this is annoyingly upbeat, I hope the karyotyping comes back negative for anything worrying and you can move forward xxxxx

Hi TeddyBear5, thanks so much for your reply. It's good to have another way of looking at things so not annoyingly upbeat at all. I know the doctor said to focus on the fact that we have 6 euploid embryos as I was leaving as he saw I was so upset.Glad your donor egg tests came back normal. Good luck with your treatment. Sending lots of baby dust.

Thank you so much. Xxxxxx
