3rd Scan - 2 nearly there & lots of tiny follicles…

Hello 👋

I’ve had my third scan today for my first cycle of IVF. I’m on day 13 now.

I have PCOS. My first and second scan showed lots of tiny follicles and the second scan showed two at 13mm so my doctor increased my Meriofert dose from 150IU to 300IU.

Today, I have 35 follicles, 1 grew from 13mm on my second scan to 16mm, the other that was at 13mm has stayed that size. Two went from 8mm to 9mm. The rest are still 8 and under.

We continue with the increased dose until my next scan Friday.

I feel like I’m not expecting the cycle to work now… I’m just collecting information to hopefully help the next attempt.

Also until my second scan I didn’t understand that this cycle attempt doesn’t mean the IVF cycle ends if it fails. The IVF only ends if we go ahead with egg retrieval.

I’m 37 with a history of not ovulating. PCOS means lower egg quality….

Am I being pessimistic thinking it’d be a waste of the IVF cycle to try the egg retrieval for two maybe mature enough follicles with potentially no egg at the end?

Should I still hope for this cycle?

I keep wondering what else I’ve misunderstood.

i had dreamed of those first cycles with all the luck… and the reality of my self funded costs is daunting.

Any thoughts appreciated x

Hi IchigoKeikaku. Looks like you may have at least three decent size follicles. Your cycle is used up when you go for egg collection. If the cycle ics cancelled before egg collection, then you are still owed that cycle. All the best that you do get to egg collection, and make sure you drink plenty of water. Good luck. Diane

I see, you mean two. Sorry the way I typed was confusing… my clinic was saying they wouldn’t recommend doing egg retrieval with less than 3. I’ll keep up hope

I had my 4th scan and I can believe it yet but it was good news! More follicles have grown!

The largest one is 20mm, but there’s now 1 at 14mm; 4 x 12mm; 2x 11mm; 4x 10mm; one at 9mm; 4x 8mm and a bunch at 7 and 6mm as well

I dared not expect this mini miracle for this round since they were talking about cancelling the cycle.

They said another scan on Monday with a further increase in meds until then. We will probably lose the largest one but they said it’s ok if we can get more from the rest of the cohort.

I can’t believe I can say this because we were told to expect the cycle to be cancelled with only 2 follicles growing but I went to my 4th scan yesterday and lots had grown!

The largest one is 20mm, but there’s now 1 at 14mm; 4 x 12mm; 2x 11mm; 4x 10mm; one at 9mm; 4x 8mm and a bunch at 7 and 6mm as well

I dared not expect this mini miracle for this round.

An update! I had my 6th scan today and finally….at last… I’m booked for the retrieval on Friday!! 🥹 I could cry

My results this time:

Right Ovary = 10, 16, 14, 19, 15, 17, 29, 19,21,13,15, 17, 16,16, 18, 19,18

Left Ovary = 12, 14, 11, 12, 15, 9, 10, 16, 18, 15, 18, 17, 11, 14, 15, 12

I can’t believe the growth, it’s amazing.

On Monday they had me reduce the doses a bit.
