With gods blessing I have recently got a positive test from my IVF FET cycle.
I am currently over 4 weeks and I asked my clinic about a 6 week viability scan and they said they don’t provide one unless there was an issue before my 12 week viability scan which is end of Sept.
I know a lot of the IVF ppl I follow have had 6 week viability scans so was wondering if anyone else had this? Would I need to go private? I don’t mind that and paying.
I am also a little anxious as this is my first pregnancy .
Any insight would be helpful.
Thanks 🙏🏽

Congratulations! I’m surprise your clinic isn’t offering you a (viability) scan at 7 weeks as I believe that usually is the case with most clinics. I had a scan every week from 5 weeks at my clinic so I’d definitely push for a scan and if they won’t offer one, then I’d recommend private for your own peace of mind xx
Thank you and for your reply. I did find it odd as everyone else has had one. Not sure if it has anything do with the fact my clinic is my local NHS one. I will query again and then try for a private xx
They still should offer you a viability at 7 weeks, my nhs clinic did. As others have said if they are pushing back book a private one, do leave it until 7 weeks though as a heartbeat will be visible then, 6 weeks can be too early for some and it may cause you unnecessary stress.
Many congratulations and wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months xx
Is your clinic in the UK? I thought it was standard practice to give a 7 week viability scan if it's IVF. If your clinic won't give you a scan there is no harm in going for a private scan. Good luck x
Yep our clinic is in UK. That’s exactly what I thought that it was standard but I got a reply saying that they only do a 7 week scan if there is an issue before the 12 week scan. Baffled really. Will look into a private scan. Thanks x
Perhaps say something like it would give you huge peace of mind to have an early scan, as you're feeling anxious, and that you have spoken with other people and the general consensus is that IVF patients get a viability scan at 6-7 weeks - even on the NHS!
Hi Chumps. I was under the impression that with IVF patients they scan at 7 weeks. When I asked my clinic why they said it’s due to the amount patients have been through to get to that point and it’s reassurance as they don’t want people waiting till 12 weeks. I would definitely question this and NHS patients having IVF should be receiving the same xx
It's been 7 weeks at both my IVF and NHS and they may bring it forward if there's a concern. But I went to a private ultrasound provider for extra scans from 5 weeks and they were brilliant. I think if you go with that option you need to do your research and check they're accredited, ideally staffed by people who also work for the NHS or similar. Hope it goes well - it's nerve wracking but also wonderful when everything's ok x
8 weeks scan is part of our package at our clinic (nhs and private) never heard of it not being offered around 7-8 weeks! If they defo do t you can get a private one for around £50 I would personally wait until over 7 weeks and closer to 8 weeks though as anything before then doesn’t show or tell you much. Congratulations xx
6 weeks is a bit early for a viability scan, they may not be able to see much or hear a heartbeat. I had a scan at 6 weeks due to a bleed and we were lucky to hear the heartbeat and see the embie in the yolk sac. But I know women who couldn't see much at that stage. My clinic does routine first scan at 8 weeks, 7 in case of concerns. Good luck!
many congratulations on your positive results. I did a private scan on 6wk4d because I had two huge blood clots a night before. For reassurance, you are mostly welcome to do it.
surprising your clinic said that usually with ivf it follows a 6-7 week scan is offered to check viability and embryo is in correct place I.E not ectopic etc. I would press that it’s important to you and that it’s making you anxious at the very least could you not ask for a hcg test repeated 2 days apart.? Wishing you the best. You could always also try your local early hospital pregnancy unit just say you have had some bleeding can I get checked please. They are usually accommodating x
