Today we had our first transfer cancelled. I'm gutted. We have been through the process twice, 3 eggs collected first time, none mature. That was short protocol.
This time we did long protocol, buserelin and menopur, 12 follicles, 9 eggs, 4 mature, but 3 were abnormal. So we had one embryo that was fair quality. But this morning I received the call that it hadn't made it to day 5.
Please tell me this gets easier. We're self funded due to my husband already having a child. But I feel so defeated, 2 x egg collections and nothing at all to work with.

I’m so sorry this has happened, I know exactly how this heart ache feels. I can’t say if it gets easier, as my second round was similar to yours. What has helped me the most is having a plan, asking lots a questions and planning our next steps.
I’ve also cried, A LOT. Spent time with friends and family and thrown everything I have back into it.
Thank you so much. Not sure on our next steps yet, but crossing fingers and toes for something positive. I hope you are OK xx
Sorry to hear about your cancelled transfer. My clinic (NHS self-funded) has a general guide is that if you have less than 4 embryos then you should have a day 3 transfer. Why did they wait until day 5? I'm assuming you had 3 eggs abnormally fertilised? The remaining single embryo should not been cultured to day 5. Sorry once again. I'd be asking questions and demanding a refund for the cancelled transfer xx
Hi, yes 3 were abnormally fertilised. They called day 3 and advised it was fair quality so I assumed they thought it would continue to improve. Because we didn't have anything to transfer first time round, I didn't have a comparison. Very frustrating xx
Hi, I understand your frustration. The drop-off from day 3 is around 30%-50%. I hope you get some answers. Even top quality embryos at day 3 can arrest and stop dividing.
Really appreciate your comment, I will speak with my husband and decide how to proceed with the clinic. After 2 x self funded rounds, we are beyond upset that we have nothing at all to show for it.

I didn’t know this either. Out of 19 eggs we had 1 fertilise 🙃…and they cultured it to day 5. Good to know though for future. X
My post isn't intended to force an opinion or assume anything, I just want to give you info that helped me:
Have you thought about or in a position to not test your embryo's - you mention they are abnormal? HFEA have marked PGT-A testing as red. I opted against testing and the below article is what helped me decide not to go ahead with it, especially as an older woman. I have a 14month girl from IVF so have been successful with IVF. I am 41. Obviously if there are genetic situations within your family history then that is different and please ignore my suggestion; I want to give you the info that helped make up my mind on testing:
