when I went for the transfer the embryologist told us that the embryo wasn’t a day 5 embryo but actually frozen on day 6. What difference does it make? Why would they have waited until day 6 to freeze?

transfer of day 6 embryo
In my case, the embryos were not advanced enough to freeze on day 5 (they were still morulas) but were showing good progress, so they gave them another 24hrs. On day 6, all 3 embryos that weren't ready to freeze on day 5 were fine (and of good quality) and were frozen. One of those day 6 embryos is now my 9 month old, where all the 5 days didn't work, so I know it didn't impact the positive outcome for me! I understand it's becoming more common to let embryos develop until day 6.
that makes sense, thank you for your reply fr_traveller.
I’m day 8 today. I’ve been feeling positive but I’m worried today.
Hi Givemesunshine. Occasionally an embryo will divide really well then slow down. If that happens an embryologistwill see if it catches up again.itwouldnt have been frozen ifa problem was suspected. One for your embryologist to see what his/herreason one. Hope all goes well. Diane
Hi Givemesunshine1,
Both my embryos that were frozen recently were day 6’s. My doctor said it was because they were growing slowly on day 5 and it is standard to wait for another day in that case. She was really happy with the quality though. Hope it goes really smoothly for you 🙌
One of my embryos was frozen on day 6 as it was a bit slower to develop, the other two were frozen on day 5. At transfer, one day 5 embryo didn’t thaw well and I had a double transfer with a day 5 and day 6 embryo. I was really unsure about the mix of day 5 and 6 and also just the day 6 embryo in general but the embryologist was really reassuring. I now have 3 year old twins!
I’ve recently had a day 6 and a day 7 (!) embryo frozen. The day 7 was a real surprise but a good one! 🤞
