Day 6 3BA embryo success?

Hi all,

After a lot of heartache, we're attempting our 7th transfer in May at a clinic in Spain. We've had to go for donor eggs and after 3 failed transfers, we now have one day 6 embryo that is 3BA.

Our clinic have said there is little difference between day 5 and day 6 embryos but I don't feel confident at all about this day 6 embryo and I'm really worried that this will result in yet another failure. I have adenomyosis, so every transfer is precluded by 3 months of down regulation, so each transfer is a long time coming.

Does anybody else have any advice/thoughts/success stories of day 6 embryos? I feel like there isn't a lot of information out there that isn't negative and at this point, I feel like the universe is trying to tell me this will never happen for us.

Xx

Not me personally but the friend of a friends little boy was a day 6 embryo xx

Last summer we transferred a day 5 and 6 together.. consultant said they were exactly the same. The way I look at it is the clinic wouldn’t bother freezing them if they didn’t think they were good enough quality x

I had a 3AB implanted on Thursday. I was really concerned that they chose this embryo (I also have 2 frozen 4BBs) so asked lots of questions. The embryologist explained that because it has an A in its grading, it’s good quality and would have just as much chance as a 4BB of being successful.

My daughter was a 4BB so I assumed they would use another 4BB but I’ve resigned myself to trusting the process!! 😥

Hi Wellington22, I am currently sitting cuddling my day 6 embryo. I had 5 transfers of top quality day 5 blasts with no success. (My clinic didn't tell you the rating, just said they were 'top quality'.) My day 6 embryo was due to be discarded on day 5 but they decided to give it 24 hours to catch up and then phoned me to say they froze it on day 6. The embryologist then indicated at transfer that the day 6 was a bit of a punt, suggesting the embryo didn't look too good. Yet that transfer has been my only ever pregnancy and she is here, happy and healthy. Better quality embryos don't make better quality babies - if it is good enough to freeze and transfer it might be the lucky one for you ❤️ You should also look into the podcast BFN/Big Fat Negative and listen to them speaking to Dr Tim Child on rating embryos - there are alot of very intelligent people who think embryo rating as a measure of success is unproven and unhelpful. Good luck! xx

Currently 9 weeks pregnant with our last embryo which is a day 6. I too went down a rabbit hole of reading that day 6 embryos can be less successful than day 5 but here we are!! This was the last embryo of our 4 we got from our first egg collection. Our little boy who's now two was my third transfer. My first and second were deemed the best quality and resulted in a chemical and a BFN. I think it's luck if the draw and Ibe learnt not to put too much weight on grading. Best of luck xx

If it’s a day 6 embryo but it’s frozen there’s no difference I don’t think with a day 5 and 6. I had two day 6 embryos stick but I don’t think either were normal as I miscarried them at 7 weeks.

Thanks for all of your replies - I really want to embrace the optimism but it's hard to be hopeful after so much failure. I know there is a chance with any embryo that has been good enough to freeze so I'm just trying to put my faith in the system and hope this one sticks x

I have just had results back from 5 PGTA tested embryos/blastos. 4 were day five and 1 was day six.

3 are genetically ‘normal’ the other 2 are not - so will be discarded. One of the genetically ‘normal’ ones was the only day 6 embryo! Hopefully that helps!!! Good luck, trust and believe all will be well.

Me!!! My 9 day 5 AA and AB embryos all failed but my only 6 day BB is now my 5 month old!!! They just take a little bit longer to get there. I read that boys think it’s a race and girls take their time. I had a little girl 😉
