4 miscarriages - is there any hope šŸ˜¢

hi ladies,

Iā€™ve had a little break from here as Iā€™ve had a bit of a rough time (like many of you!) and just needed some time to gather my thoughts.

Quick update - 6 rounds of IVF, low AMH but 3 miscarriages around the 6.5 week mark. Other than low AMH weā€™ve had no other indications of why this has happened. Iā€™ve taken blood thinners, had all the blood tests, steroids last time etc.

we stopped trying and decided no more IVF.

I then by some miracle had a positive pregnancy test naturally šŸ™ˆ but sadly thatā€™s ended in a chemical this week.

Iā€™m just beside myself and donā€™t know what to do next, clearly falling pregnant naturally has given me a glimmer of hope but equally I canā€™t get any embryos to stick around long.

does anyone have any suggestions or success stories after this many miscarriages.

Iā€™m 37 soon so time not really on my side and just worrying all my eggs are duds.

Thanks xx

Hi lovely, so sorry to hear this, it must be so traumatic to go through so many miscarriages, I hope you are ok and doing things that bring you joy. I can think of two things that may help1- were your embryos PGT-a tested? And have you and your partner had karyotyping done? Even if the embryos look good they might have chromosomal issues and not be viable

2- you could go to the Warwick recurrent miscarriage clinic run by Tommy's. They do a biopsy and if it shows your womb lining is not robust enough (prone to breakdown/miscarriage) they can start you on tablets to improve the womb lining. It is a research clinic so the treatments aren't well established yet but preliminary trial results very promising.

Good luck with it all and I really hope you find the right path for you xxx

thank you for taking the time to reply! I had the ERA done which showed I needed extra progesterone, but the womb lining was all fine - would the clinic (Tommys) check anything different?

The clinic always advised against testing the embryos as we only get low numbers due to AMH šŸ˜ž

Iā€™ve just started on some new supplements to try and improve egg quality as I think this could be the issue. Iā€™m also going to try and lose some weight and cut out sugar (as I do eat quite a lot I think) x

The Warwick biopsy is different to ERA - it does the dEFT test (digital endometrial function). Checks something similar to ERA (but in a natural cycle) but also the robustness of the womb lining and NK cell levels. I think it cost us about Ā£900 in total for the test and two consultations. warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/med/r...

Ah I see, it's difficult then with PGT-A, probably not worth the expense as it is expensive, more expensive than doing an embryo transfer. Wishing you the best of luck XXX

I'm so sorry for your loss recurring pregnancy loss is so emotionally painful.

I had a chemical pregnancy before our now nearly 4 year old daughter I was 37 having her. And then had a loss at 20 weeks pregnant, another chemical pregnancy then another loss at 6/7 weeks. All natural pregnancies ( once my endo was diagnosed and treated which caused years of infertility ) I was then referred to a miscarriage specialist who ran many tests which revealed no obvious cause as did my daughters post mortem. The specialist did agree to the steroids if had with my first daughter when I conceived my youngest daughter who is 14 months old. I was 40 having her- so no you have time on your side!. If you haven't been referred to a miscarriage specialist I would absolutely insist on a referral. Even if you didn't find answers doesn't mean you can't have a successful pregnancy even after recurring miscarriages. I have heard of many ladies having a baby after recurring miscarriages.

I hope you have plenty of support Xx

hello, your post is almost identical to mine from about two weeks ago. Had a very early loss (natural) following a couple of IVF chemical pregnancies. Iā€™d echo what others have said - keep pushing for a referral to your local recurrent miscarriage clinic, or if youā€™re impatient like me you can seek a private one. It isnā€™t clear from your post whether youā€™ve had any tests, such as the thrombophilia screen or thyroid etc.

At any rate knowledge is key so try to get to the bottom of why this may be happening, and donā€™t give up. Iā€™m 40+ now but have heard so many success stories following on from repeated miscarriages so thereā€™s reason to stay positive and hopeful. Feel free to DM me if youā€™d like to chat xx

aww lovely Iā€™m so sorry about your loss recently šŸ˜¢ Iā€™m not a big fan of testing even though it keeps being recommended to us lately but I wonder whether even with low amh it might be worth it to save you some of the risk of the miscarriages? If youā€™ve had all the tests and the treatments and youā€™ve had quite a few implant the only thing I can think of is the embryos. In saying that Iā€™m not going to do testing and just try any embryos back as itā€™s quicker if you only get one or 2 is my view until one sticks for good but Iā€™ve only had a couple of chemicals and lots of BFNs so I donā€™t have the pain of those losses that you have xx

so sorry to hear of your losses - miscarriage is truly heartbreaking. I had four losses (3x natural, 1x IVF) at around 6.5 weeks and thought there must be something really wrong with me. They identified the first two were due to a hydrosalpinx which i had removed but we didnā€™t know the reason for the second two. I pushed for a referral to the recurrent miscarriage clinic, and as that was processing tried one more FET which stuck past 6 weeks and is now 33 weeks. No idea what worked - and weā€™re still not out the woods just yet - but itā€™s proof that it can happen despite multiple losses! Xx

Hi Catlady, so sorry to hear about all your losses. One women I follow who talks about the role of folate and MTHFR with recurrent miscarriage is Dr Carolyn Ledowsky. Have a Google and she if you think she's relevant to your situation. She has a few information webinars on her site and has been running more recently for miscarriage and infertility week. I hope you find some answers.
