Best embryo on fresh transfer?

Hello everyone! So we just had our 2nd failed fresh transfer. This is our second cycle and luckily we had 4 eggs collect this time (low AMH and oly 1 egg on 1st cycle). We ended up with 2 good embryos (1 transferred and 1 frozen) and an average day 6 embryo that was discarded. I am now wondering if I should have transferred the average embryo and frozen the 2 good ones. What would people normally do? It was our 1st time with an extra embryo so it didn't even cross my mind to suggest. I'm only thinking about future cycles if it comes to that.

Anyone been through similar situation? Thanks 🙏

I’ve wondered this before too but our clinic said that they chose the best one for fresh day transfer no matter how many you have or if you have some not suitable for freezing as their job is to give you the best chance of a pregnancy now and any frozen is just a bonus so that’s not how they work. We had only one this round that was suitable for transfer and one they were going to keep to day 6 to see if it got any better to freeze but they didn’t think it would so we just put that back in too day 5 with the 4AA as we thought that would at least give it a chance and I think that’s the route I would go down again if there were any ‘stragglers’. Might be worth asking your clinic but my clinic wouldn’t have transferred the one not suitable for freezing and frozen the good one, although they didn’t have a problem putting the average one back in too xx

Thank you! I haven't had my review consultation yet but I belive my clinic will tell me the same as yours, which makes sense. I'll keep that in mind for future transfers as I would probably want to put both back in as well xx

it’s a difficult one - if the day 6 wasn’t good enough to freeze though it’s quality must have been less than average? So you’d effectively just be wasting the money? Plus day 6 success rates are much better if they are frozen and then put back in on day 5 as an FET

I might have asked though if it could have been transferred with the one you had? So a double transfer

The clinic only told me it was an average quality on day 5 so something must have happened between then and day 6. Tbh these calls are always a but overwhelming for me so I didn't even think of anything to ask at the time. I will raise it on my review appt though. Yes, will definitely ask about the double transfer. Thank you! Xx
