As my question states, I have just had the call to let me know that our second round of natural modified IVF has failed as the egg did not fertilise.
We have paid for a three round package, that was our second round, we now only have one left.
We already have a beautiful daughter together through IVF, so we know our eggs and sperm like each other but now being 38, I wonder is it my eggs which are no longer any good?
My bmi could come down a bit, it is currently 31.5 but the clinic haven’t seemed overly concerned about that. It’s ironic that I’m actually still carrying pregnancy weight from my daughter, which could now be stopping me from giving her a sibling…….
Is there anything any of you could suggest to me please? My husbands sperm seems fine, he produced 23 million for them yesterday!
With unexplained infertility it is so hard to know what to do, I’m taking lots of supplements and my husband is taking a few too.
I am having acupuncture every two weeks, what else can I do??
Is it now the donor egg route we look in to or is there something else I could do to salvage my eggs? My amh was 2.3 when last tested….
any help or guidance would be so very much appreciated.
big hugs to all of you going through this, it is so hard.
I’ve already decided I’m going to take a three month break before going through the third round, need to get my mind in the right place and shall continue on my diet to lose those extra pounds pushing my bmi over……
many thanks to you all xx

Hello Luamber, I am so sorry to hear your second round failed, it is heartbreaking. From reading a previous post I understand your clinic used ICSI as fertilisation method? Perhaps you might want to ask for IMSI or even PIMSI for your next round? These methods would use a higher magnification rate and in the case of PIMSI use a substance to encourage healthy sperm to attach to it so it is easier for the embryologist to select the best looking sperm. Have you had a semen analysis or DNA fragmentation test done with your husband's sperm? The quantity may be good but it is possible there is higher DNA fragmentation or other issues with your husband's sperm that could prevent successful fertilisation. I also have low AMH so was prescribed DHEA along with other supplements during my egg collection cycles. I also added Melatonin to my last stim cycle which is meant to aid follicle quality and resilience. Your stimulation protocol can also impact your egg quality. Hopefully these pointers are useful for future discussions with your consultant. Wishing you the best of luck! X
thank you so much, I really appreciate your response and the time it will have taken you to do so.
I am going to make a note of your points and when I speak with the consultant I will raise them with them. I have not heard of those other types of ‘ICSI’ so shall bring those up.
I did ask about DNA fragmentation after the first failed round and they said that they do that test but would suggest ICSI anyway if there was a problem so we are already doing that.
His sperm was tested back in august and they have said they can see a lot of swimmers when they do the icsi, there are so many loop holes- who knows??
I just need to have a thorough discussion with them and ask them exactly what else they can test us for before going through the last round.
Fingers crossed on that one, as I don’t know what we will do after that!
Thank you again so much for taking the time to respond x
