Hi guys.Just wondering if anyone has done the COMET test for sperm DNA issues. We have had our second failure with DE with poor fertilisation rate and the clinic are now suggesting this test but we have to go external as there labs aren't certified to do it.
We had the SOS test which we have been treating results with proxceed but Dr now saying that there maybe worse DNA damage and OS is a product of this and treating just this might not get to the bottom of the issue.
Not sure how we've got to round 7 without all these test being completed it's so frustrating when there's no proactive management everything's reactive.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, my hubby had the Comet test done in Jan this year. His results weren’t within the correct levels so we have been treating with Proceive (a higher level male supplement like Proxeed) We were also told that if you overdo the supplements it can do more harm than good. Trouble is no way to check that unless we do the test again & it’s like £600 🙄 We’re also stuck on whether to carry on with the supplements or not!
Tbh I think the only way you would know for a certainty what to do would be to go see a urologist like Jonathan Ramsay. It’s about £1500 for a consultation with him & for all the tests he does routinely hence why we haven’t gone down that route yet as it’s just so expensive 🙈
Hi Dinfertilitylady. Thanks for this. My clinic seemed to think if there was more than 50% DNA damage from that test than they would extract sperm straight from internally from my hubby. I hadn't considered they may just say stay on supplements.
That's seems pointless to me. I have heard about Dr Ramsey. Maybe this is a better investment 🙈. I wonder what he does that does better than this test I will have a look.
We've looked at the test using a London laboratory as our clinics lab isn't licencenced and it works out about 375 quid 😔 maybe that's just not worth it x
In some countries outside of the UK, these types of sperm tests are done routinely prior to first IVF cycle. For some reason, in the UK they don't do it and let women go through multiple cycles before doing basic due diligence on sperm. It's negligent as far as I'm concerned. Often the problem is with the sperm not the egg and women get the short end of the stick.
Completely agree marisa32. Disgusting isn't it. Never have they said hubby sperm might need further investigation just left it on my shoulders as being the issue xx
