Hi there, firstly I'm sorry you've gone through miscarriages, I know how brutal that is. I've had 5 chemicals (early miscarriages) and 2 miscarriages at 6 and 8 weeks. I've also given birth at 40 in August this year to a little boy. We had ivf on the nhs. They referred me for tests and ultimately it was age related. I started ivf when I was 38 but it was delayed due to covid. Best of luck xx
They tested for sticky blood and immune deficiencies. When everything came clear they said it's probably age and egg quality. Your egg quality deteriorates with age increasing the chance of a miscarriage X
Never give up hope! I had a medical termination at 21 weeks with my first pregnancy (baby was diagnosed with anencephaly so 0% chance of survival outside the womb), still birth at 32weeks in second pregnancy, 2 miscarriages at 9 and 12 weeks. Then I went to a miscarriage clinic for investigations. She was absolutely incredible and tested for everything. She operated on my womb to change the shape to increase my chances and also discovered I have a blood condition (APS) which she believes is why I’ve been unsuccessful so far.
I am now 13+2 and things are different this time. In all previous pregnancies, I wouldn’t go a week without bleeding. This time round, I had one little bleed at 6weeks and then nothing! I know it’s still early days for me but I’m super positive!
If you are based anywhere near London, let me know and I’ll give you the name of the miscarriage professor. She’s a leader in her field and is known worldwide for her contributions to discovering more about miscarriages and how to prevent them. X
Thanks for sharing your story. So glad things worked out for you. I am 42 and am currently suffering my 3rd miscarriage at 7 weeks. 2 were natural pregnancies and this one is from my IvF transfer. I am wondering if maybe I should see the lady specialist you saw? Please if you don’t mind sharing her details?
The majority of early miscarriages (first trimester) are apparently caused by chromosome issues with the embryo, which is much more common as you get older unfortunately.I'd maybe look into getting your embryos PG tested, then you know they are transferring only the chromosomally normal (euploid) embryos.
The percentage of chromosomally normal embryos decreases with age (as Legallyblonde39 says this is down to egg quality). A friend who is a bit older than you, 41, had 6 blasts and only one tested normal - which wasn't the best quality one either so certainly wouldn't have been the first one transferred if she hadn't done the testing.
so sorry to hear - you can ask your GP to refer you to the recurrent miscarriage clinic in london (google Tommys and you’ll find it). That’s what i did after 4 MCs and they’ve been helpful even during my current pregnancy too x
this is what it says on the website: All of the clinics will accept patients who have had 3 miscarriages and an appropriate General Practitioner (GP) referral from anywhere within the UK. The clinics are only in England - but looks like London states you don’t need to be local.
I am so sorry for all you are going through! Infertility and pregnancy loss is so cruel and so hard to go through.
My story is I was trying to conceive for 5 years. I had 1 chemical, 2 ectopics (one medically managed, one surgery and Fallopian tube removed) and 3 miscarriages. I was diagnosed with the MTHFR gene mutation and Endometriosis. The above included 3 rounds of IVF (although the first didn’t count as my eggs released the morning of the egg collection).
I am currently 38 (39 in March) and 16 weeks pregnant from my last FET attempt!
we never found out why I miscarried. I did send off foetal tissue on my last miscarriage as it was a missed miscarriage but never received any result back from the NHS.
I still feel like I am on the rollercoaster of emotions but slowly trying to accept that this time my dreams are going to come true.
Sorry I don’t have any advise for you but have also suffered 3 miscarriages and it’s devastating. My embryologist wants me to go down the donor route but I want one more chance still. Here if you need to chat x
I have had 7 miscarriages and 2 births. Don’t ever give up. I had two years of 4 miscarriages before my first came naturally. Second I did with ivf. Here if you need me xxx
