Phew. So I have had my egg collection and 5 eggs were retrieved. I have no idea yet how many are mature, I guess that's something I'll find out tomorrow when I discover fertilisation results.
5 may not be a lot to most people but to me it is a really good result and I have to take the small wins.
It's certainly better than the zero eggs I had on my first cycle. And this cycle has had many ups and downs, it's taken 3 months to be able to start and my right ovary has been 'asleep' the whole time. Also my follicles then appeared to be shrinking but this was possibly due to another person scanning me from my normal doctor.
Please keep hopeful for me and send good vibes, I need to keep spirits up as have a looooonng way to go xx

Great news! I'll keep all my fingers crossed all of the eggs are mature and fertilise! I'm so so so hoping this time things work out great for you! Lots of love, luck and positive vibes your way 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am so pleased you got 5 eggs that's good news!! I am a low responder and most eggs I've had is 6 in my last 2 cycles, you have to take the little wins when you can. hope they are mature & so on best of luck with the next steps!! ( I find the phone call updates to be the worst part) hope your recovering ok and sending positiveness your way 🤞xx
This is also a win situation than the previous ones so be proud and happy about it and wish you good luck hope you get all mature when the clinic rings..
Well done for getting there to the egg collection stage. 5 eggs! Excellent news!
I had mine yesterday (very first IVF cycle). Very low AMH, 7 follicles, 3 grew - all in the left ovary. Just like yours, my right ovary did not respond at all to stims (2 follicles there).
First of all, last minute change to ICSI, then only 1 egg was harvested... and not fertilized. I had a phone call this morning...
Your 5 eggs give me hope that I might have better luck next time.
Did you change your protocol at all? Or can the cycles just vary this much?
I keep everything crossed for you and please let us know how the phone call goes tomorrow!
Hi Diana. Thank you for your message. I was starting to doubt whether I would get to egg collection at all so was pleased on that front. I'm sorry you've had a difficult first cycle, I'd say cycles can vary month to month however there are things to learn from each cycle that can guide changes to made next time. Were you on long or short protocol? After a disastrous first round on long protocol I am always on short protocols now. I have had multiple cycles and am currently tryjng to embryo bank. Another thing is to look at the drugs you were on, perhaps there are changes that can be made there.
It was frustrating to have one ovary asleep, I'm sorry you had that too. Did your clinic pass remark as to why it may be?
Hi there, Thanks for your response. I was put on long protocol and the maximum legal dose: 150 Menopur and 300 Gonal-F.
Regards to "lazy ovary", only comment was that it could happen, but can vary each cycle. Although everyone has a "dominant" side. Logical, factual, but not helping the fact the already 50% was taken away to start, kind of thing. What did your clinic say about it.
I read about embryo banking. Do you think it is a better option? I think our paid multi pack (3 cycles) include unlimited FET, but I need to use my frozen eggs first. We were given the option to go for fresh embryo transfer or freeze them. We went for the fresh, but as the only egg was not fertilized, it did not matter... grr...
I hope you feel well after a long and exhausting day yesterday and that you are not too much pain! How did the whole procedure go? Are you on pessaries now?
I am wishing you all the best for today and keep everything crossed for a nice amount of fertilized egg. Please, let me know what the outcome was.
I would definitely be asking about short protocol in your position. I believe my ovaries found it too hard to wake up after being down regulated. I have seen this happen to others too, especially when AMH is at the lower end.
My clinic said something similar re the ovary being asleep. Just that it can change. I know that is true because I have had other cycles where its been awake. But for the last two it's been asleep which has been hugely frustrating.
Embryo banking was recommended to me by my clinic due to my history, age, reserve etc. I think its a good option in some circumstances because it halts the biological clock. Obviously it's not for everyone though.
I'm not on pessaries because I'm not doing a fresh transfer. I will be testing and freezing any resulting embryos so I've still got a long way to go...
Silly me!!! I meant to write SHORT protocol. Sorry! I don't think I could deal with long protocol.
I will ask about embryo banking.
Which county are you? I am in Kent.
I haven't organised the brief appointment yet, but I have been told that they give me a call today. It is all seems a bit of a blur, after the bad news was delivered I lost my questions in my head.
Not surprised it feels like a blur, I would suggest writing any questions down as you think of them. Sometimes things just pop into my head and I make a note on my phone's notepad. How did the call go today?
Yes, making notes would have been great. Although, I think I asked plenty of questions after the egg retrieval. The specialist was really patient with me and anwered many things about ICSI, lifestyle etc.
Today, we have been told that there is still no movement in the egg, which I was expecting. Nothing from our clinic (the local one we go to for scans, blood tests and the actual "operation" bit is in London).
I might give them a call tomorrow.
Have you had your phone call yet? I hope it is good news and there will be enough fertilised eggs!
I will be waiting to see the results of this cycle before deciding what's next I think, just because that will give me a fuller picture and prevent me from worrying about the maybes.
DNA fragmentation test will just tell you more about the sperm. The basic sperm tests tell you how the sperm look but the DNA test looks inside the sperm so more info can be gleaned from that. I was just thinking it may be worth doing because you mentioned the egg did not fertilise. Maybe your clinic can offer a view as to why.
Yes I would phone your clinic and press them for an appointment for your debrief. In my experience the debrief appointment can be weeks away so best to get it booked in at earliest opportunity.
amazing news - so lovely and everything crossed that you get good results from the lab tomorrow and beyond xx you’re such a survivor -the horrendous ups and downs are so hard to navigate it really happy to hear today is so good-5 is amazing.
Well done, lovely. 5 is a great start! Wishing you more good news from the lab over the next five days. 🤞💫🤞xxx
Hooray!! Five eggs is actually a great haul and its quality rather than quantity anyway! After the rollercoaster you have had recently I think you should definitely take today as a big win! Rest up now and heaps of luck for the call tomorrow! Crossing everything for you xx
5 eggs is a great start. I'll keep everything crossed for you. I remember this stage being very nerve wracking and your pulse spikes every time the phone rings. I really hope you get some fertilised! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Thank you so much everyone for your support. I really do appreciate it. I haven't told anyone except my mum about this round of IVF and so it's really nice to be able to be uplifted when in the midst of it all.
I had "the call" this morning. Out of 5 eggs, 3 have fertilised. One egg was immature and one did not survive the ICSI process. You obviously always want more but I am telling myself that that's 3 chances and the drop off we've experienced is only to be expected.
Just have to keep everything crossed to the max now, gosh I have been anxious all morning
My third cycle I had only three fertilised eggs and one made it to 5AA.
Can I ask what the doctors strategy us? How many PGS embryos do they want you to bank before transfer? I ask because I am also considering embryo banking x
Super news! I am so pleased you have those 3! Was frantically searching this thread for an update! 😀 Obvs we all want them all to fertilise every time but I think 3 out of 5 is a great ratio and I wish you heaps of luck for you next call! Crossing everything for you! x
Thank you for this Daisy, I didn't post a new update as I didn't want to hog the feed so thought I'd just update here. It would have been grand if 100% fertilisation had occurred but it was always going to be unlikely and I just have to keep the hope alive now. Your thoughts mean a lot xx
Three is pretty good, I think 🤞. Hope you're hanging in there okay as you wait for day 5 results. I think it's the hardest part having a minor heart attack every time the phone rings. I am rooting for those 3 little embryos. xxx
Three fertilised is brilliant, Skittles! Really well done. ❤️❤️ I’ll be keeping your little embryos in my thoughts and sending lots of good energy for them all to make to Day 5. xx
I think 5 is fantastic! So pleased for you especially after everything you have been through with this! Hoping and praying that you get good news tomorrow re maturity and fertilisation. Keep me posted. I am so hopeful for you
Just read your update. 3 is good and I am hoping and praying all 3 make it to blastocyst. Are you planning on having a fresh transfer or are your trying to bank these ones? All the best either way! Xxx
Thank you so much...it won't be a fresh transfer. The plan will be to test any embryos that make it to Day 5 and freeze them. I've been trying to embryo bank. Thank you for your wishes. How are you doing?
That’s great news, 5 is a good number. Hope youre feeling ok . It’s a great achievement in itself just getting to egg collection and then getting 5 is brilliant 👏 sending you lots of positivity and luck over the next few days 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Ah 3 is great news! Was looking for an update on this post. It's quality that matters most rather than quantity. You seem to be heading in the right direction. I wish you heaps of luck on the rest of the process Skittlest 🤞
