Hi , me and partner have been trying for over two years now and have just been referred for Varicocele removal surgery. Has anyone got any success stories in relation to this , really hoping it’s going to help us 🤞🏻

After 2.5 years of trying, 3 failed rounds of ivf and no one investigating why my partners numbers were so low etc, we finally decided to pay for private consultation and tests. We had our answer within 10 mins of the first test! He had 2 bad varicoceles! No one had even bothered to check him prior to this!

He went in for varicocele embolisation in February 22 (private again as nhs waiting time was more than 18 months!). We were told to wait 3 months for him to have his sample tested again, and then again after 6 months.

The first sample came back with massively improved numbers!! Example - the first count prior to any treatment was 0.9m, his first count after surgery was 16.5m!

We got the ball rolling with our 4th round of ivf 4/5 months after surgery and were told his numbers were 25m and the % of motility etc had rocketed.

For the first time ever, we got 4 embryos, 2 transferred and 2 frozen!

I am currently 7 weeks pregnant 😊!

I know it can vary person to person but there really was no reason he should have had such low numbers, and clearly the embolisation made the difference.

My only comment would be, I wish the nhs would have bothered to look earlier because we’ve paid out a lot of money on treatment and tests and spent years of our life waiting and wondering when this could have been spotted on his first initial consultation with the GP.

hi again ! If you don’t mind sharing can I possibly ask how much the operation was private please ?

of course, it think it depends where you go (and your location), but we went to Spire in Nottingham, it was approx £4,000 including consultation. The private tests were an additional £1,000 but this was in London so prices were higher.

Yes! My partner had this and it was life changing. His DNA fragmentation went down from 42% to 22% and we finally got a good blastocyst which is now my daughter. Definitely do it ❤️ X
