I’m in a difficult situation and not sure what to do.
On my 7th round of IVF.
Round 5 - early miscarriage
Round 6 - Ovarian ectopic (surgery to remove from left ovary at 7 weeks)
This round:
HCG is on the low side:
11dp5dt - 63
14dp5dt - 110
18dp5dt (very late PM) -635
20dp5dt - (early AM approx 36 hours later) - 1192
I had a scan at EPU on 18dp5dt as I was worried about ectopic. They thought they could see the start of something possibly in my uterus but too soon to tell.
Also thought my right ovary looked very ‘bulky’ so were a little concerned, however no sign of pregnancy.
Today I’ve been back to EPU and rather than do another scan, they’ve asked me to come back in a week.
Problem is, I’m due to go on holiday abroad for a week in 2 days. I asked the doctors opinion and she if I go it’s ‘at my own risk’, although they don’t have any evidence yet to suggest this is ectopic.
What would you do? I’ll either be stressing at home or relaxing in the sun (will still be stressing no doubt), but I feel it’s also a bit risky. The holiday dates can’t be changed as we are taking my stepdaughter and her friend and they can’t travel any other times.
Advise please 🙏

I would go. My HCG started off half of yours and I had a few repeat betas, and my son is six months old. I was due to go visit family in Scotland while in beta hell and I went - it gave me something else to focus on rather than googling. The distraction was good for me and because I was with family, I could have a whinge if I needed to. If you’re really anxious, just make sure you have travel insurance and you know how to access a doctor once you’re there. I was worried I had an ectopic or a early miscarriage but we saw a heartbeat on a scan at 6 weeks. It is scary to hope, but just try to wait it out.
I think part of infertility means you always look for what could go wrong, and you have been through much more than most. I’ll cross my fingers for you. x
I would stay or relax in the sun and come back earlier for my scan. My clinic recommends no traveling while on ivf, because something can go wrong, and then they won't be able to help. I have followed the advice for years.
In your situation I would ask myself: if this is an ectopic, what could happen to me? Could I feel bad during the vacations or this early? Can I book an ultrasound elsewhere? If I don't go to the travel, what would happen to me? Can I come back earlier?... and then select the risk that you are able to take.
You HCG doesn't seem low to me, but I am not a doctor. And you have had ectopics before, and they did not detect an embryo yet, and your ovaries were looking strange, so maybe it can be an ectopic or they are being extra careful.
Hi there, this is a really difficult one for you. I would probably be checking with my travel insurance to see if you are covered for this scenario before you go. So sorry you are going through this added stress and worry.x
I managed to get a private scan yesterday, worked out by my IVF dates that I was 5 weeks 5 days. We saw a fetal pole & yolk sac in my uterus!!!!!
She could not detect a heartbeat but said it was just too early, especially as it was not an internal scan.
Also she said she could not rule out the possibility of another embryo being in a tube/ovary since I had 3 transferred, but this would be EXTREMELY unlikely.
So… I then felt reassured enough to come away on holiday. Arrived today and feel instantly relaxed. Will go back to EPU for an internal scan at 7 weeks and hopefully see that heartbeat 💓.
I would go on vacation just make sure you have some type of health insurance over there and look up a clinic nearby, in case of an emergency. Hopefully won't be needed but just for peace of mind.
Had another scan yesterday exactly 7 weeks at EPU and saw a heartbeat! I was dated at 6 weeks 4 days, hoping this is nothing to worry about and things can catch up?
Hi! I was in the same situation, 3 to 4 days behind at 7 weeks the doctors were not worried at all. I had another scan a week after because I had some bleeding, and everything was ok... and now the embryo was 2 days too big. so they catch up. They told me that unless it is like over 1 week too small, things like this are to be expected.
Yes, I had a scan at 8+2 and was measuring 7+6 so still 3 days behind. I’m now 10+1 but panicking as I no longer feel pregnant, other than totally exhausted. Got another scan this weekend…
