Follicle advice please !

Hi all, me again……

So- originally my egg collection was pre scheduled for Monday (7th) . Fine .

I went for my first scan on Monday after 5 days on stims and there are follicles growing (I never have a huge amount ) and they were ranging between 12-15 and some smaller ones under 10. I assumed this was relatively normal for the first scan and that I would still have a week until EC.

Last time we did an EC it was delayed a few days to allow my follicles to grow and develop to between 18-21mm - so I assumed this was standard procedure . Here is where my confusion arises……

On Monday , the nurse said to come back for a second scan tomorrow and that potentially my EC ‘may’ be moved to Friday (two days earlier than scheduled). She didn’t really tell me why this was - and when I asked about the last cycle and prolonging stims to make the 18-21mm, I feel she just sort of brushed me off .

I have the second scan now tomorrow and I am wondering if there is anything I should be asking about follicle size/ the best size for EC etc? Does anyone have any similar experience where the follicles may not have been 18-21?

Like I said , I’m never working with huge numbers sadly and last time we had very few eggs fertilize so thought maybe there is a method to switching things up like this (but if there was , she didn’t tell me ! )

My clinic always tell me that follicles tend to grow 2-3mm a day. I think they are thinking 12-15mm could easily be over 20mm come Friday. Generally clinics go for retrieval if you have 3 or more follicles over 14mm so you are almost there already. I think you could have quite a good haul come Friday based on those numbers. Good luck x

Thank you. I felt so disheartened and didn’t feel the nurse was reassuring at all. We initially started ICSI for a male issue but the last two rounds I haven’t had many eggs to play with and not many have fertilised. I was really hoping for more this cycle as stims were upped but feel like I’m failing already ! Xx

At scan ask why date for egg collection has been changed-it maybe you have responded better this time also remember the trigger shot will encourage the eggs to grow a bit more The nurse should be able to give the reason for the date change and be able to explain the reasoning for it
