Change Clincs or not to change clinc

Hi

So last week we had our 2nd BFN. We are using DE and last year from 10 eggs we ended up with 1 embryo, it was a top quality but still didn't implant. Our clinic advised additional tests for my partner which were all fine and to use Zumot on our next round which will help select the best sperm.

Our 2nd round only 4 eggs out of 9 survived the thawing process and we ended up with 1 embyro that wasn't of good quality, but we still had hope and were devested last week when we got our BFN.

We are yet to have our review with the clinic and will request an investigation into what's going soo wrong.

My partner has said we can have 1 last go as we are not made of money and age isn't on ourside.

My question is, should we stick with our current clinic or look into changing. I can't risk paying for another round to end up with such poor results with no real answers.

Many thanks.xxx

Oh this is such a tricky one - sending you huge hugs.

Can you stick with same clinic but different donor? Or have you more in freezer?

I am by no means an expert but with those that rates it makes me think the eggs were immature or not great quality?

No BFP after two rounds isn’t unusual, unfortunately it’s not a guarantee, but I do think you deserve better rates of eggs / embryos xx

Hi daisy thanks for your response and hugs they are very much needed at the moment. We have had different donors each time. The clinc say that they do thorough testing on the eggs and implied last time that it was a sperm issue but we have had the extra tests and everything was fine. I suppose we need to see what they say in our review. We just find it so hard when you have to have these difficult theses important conversations either by phone or video call and not face to face. Hi Bailey,

very sorry it didn’t work again. I changed clinics after two failed cycles with one clinic, and best decision I made (although not donated egg, regular IVF), although, no success with new clinic yet. My gut told me to move after the first, but I stuck with them, so if you feel you should move, then do it. I wish I had moved after first failed round. Go with your gut instinct.

Also re sperm, just as a good measure, if your partner isn’t taking supplements, have your partner on impryl/ proxceed etc anyway- can only help.

Best of luck with next round!

Thanks GKM21 I think the fact that our results were worse 2nd time should speak volumes. My partner was taking the male version of pregnacare which I know has zinc in but any thing that helps i'm happy to make him take

Hi Bailey_2019

I am sorry to hear your having no luck as yet. I feel I am in a similar position to you but a bit further down the line so thought I would share my experience see if it helps in any way.

We have had 3 donors all from the same egg bank and with the same clinic. The first donor we had 8 eggs and got two embryos which at the time I was chuffed with but neither implanted.

The second donor we had 6 eggs and ended up with 2 very poor quality embryos which were not really worth transferring so the hospital transferred both at once because they knew how poor they were that there was little chance of either being successful.

We have just been through what my partner and I agreed would be our last round and had 6 eggs, only 2 defrosted correctly. Only one of them fertilised correctly, but it did make it to transfer and I did get a positive pregnancy test last week but it was so faint I knew something was wrong. I have had the final confirmation by testing again today it was a chemical pregnancy. Therefore the embryo just wasn't viable.

My worry is that we are either getting really poor eggs or because my partner has poor sperm quality actually the eggs are not that bad but then the sperm let's it down.

My partner originally took something called Impryl but after a further oxidation test he had to take proxceed. This is to do with reducing a particular factor that doesn't help the sperm, I am sorry I can't remember the exact details.

As far as my partner is concerned that's our IVF journey over now, but I don't know if I can stop yet. I am 42 and a half, I can get enough money for one more go without my partner's help, so would be prepared to pay one last time, but just don't know if there is any point doing the same thing again! Hence wanting to know about treatment abroad, although can't get my head round how I could logistically do it with work.

Will have the follow up with the consultant soon, but it just feels like it is a numbers game of trying as many eggs as possible until you succeed, unless as I constantly worry about my partner's sperm is actually an issue they are minimising. However, who has the money and can bear all the emotional weight, it's so tough.

I am absolutely gutted I really thought 4 attempts with donor eggs would have given us the child we want, but I am at the point where I just feel like it's the luck of the draw on the eggs, so to increase the chances I need the youngest eggs I can get, which in Cyprus is not likely.

Hi yellow611 I'm so sorry you are in the same position it's so heart breaking isn't it. I can't imagine your pain when you had a chemical after feeling so happy about finally getting a BFP. Sending you big hugs. ❤ I think the worst part is having to make that decision when to stop. My partner had an SOS test which checks the stress oxidants and that came back fine we added in the zumot in which they would offer if there was DNA fragmentation in the sperm.

Like you i am 42 and will be 43 in a few weeks. I've looked at another clinic which specialises in donor eggs and ladies over 40 . We have our follow appointment with the clinic next week once we have had that then we will speak to a new clinc, then maybe look at abroad to.

Let me know how you get on with your clinic and what you decide next . I'm here if you need to talk or rant . Xxx
