I am 27 and have low AMH (first test was 5pmol second test was 7pmol). Im now being referred for IVF after ttc for 2 years, but i keep hearing ‘low AMH doesnt mean you cant get pregnant’. I have a regular cycle, quite light periods.
Ive never ever had a pregnancy scare, never had a positive test, so my question is, do you think there could be something else preventing pregnancy? My other tests have apparently come out fine r.e hormes etc. Even if my eggs are low, if im ovulating, i just dont get how ive never fallen pregnant at all🥺
Feeling a but defeated and with IVF coming up, a lot of thoughts going through my mind!
Any advice is appreciated x

Hey - I’m sorry to hear of your low levels. I received a 2.2 AMH result shortly after my 28th in July. I’d been on contraception since I was 14 only coming off the coil in the prior September, so never a known or possible pregnancy. No luck after 10 month ttc, which isn’t long. But fast forward 15 months since trying to conceive & I was due to start ivf this January, we miraculously had a natural conception in December. So it’s more than possible. My partner had poor sperm on all levels. So we’d both taken a lot of supplements since august/September this year, improved our diets, cut out all caffeine and alcohol. We’d been the healthiest ever. Honestly, without these changes I don’t believe it would have happened for us. I’d highly recommend jumping on these things just to try and improve your chances.
Thank you for your response. Congratulations on your pregnancy! What an encouraging story. May i ask what type of supplements you took and any particular diet etc?
Im on some supplements but want to ensure im on the correct track!
Hope your well and again, thank you for replying😊x
Ubiquinol; omega 3 fish oil; a pregnancy/conception multi vit(Asda); n acetyl cysteine; and vitamin d. Also took DHEA as instructed by my clinic. My partner took wellman initially and then went onto proceive.
Diet wise we swapped all white bread and pasta etc for brown; ensured we had more fruit and veg - I had a blended smoothie every morning (as I struggle eating fruit); pretty much cut out red meat; only bought other meat from the butchers to avoid the chemicals put into supermarket packaging. I tried to concentrate on veg like broccoli and spring greens etc. We used to have takeaways every week and cut those out, but I would still have a sandwich or toastie etc at a cafe on the weekend. Also cut out all sweets and chocolate other than two cubes of dark chocolate of an evening. If there was the odd slice of cake at work, then I would have it. Don’t starve yourself of everything
We both used to also do a lot of weights in the gym and cut this out too. I don’t think on any scientific basis, but I just didn’t particularly want the pressure on our bodies
I’m sorry it hasn’t happened for you yet. I was told similar when I went for my initial tests and was devastated about the low AMH number, I was 32 at the time so slightly older than you. We had been trying for three years and likewise I’d never had a scare and had regular, pretty light periods.
It’s really difficult to not be given a definite reason why you haven’t conceived naturally so I understand why you are asking yourself all these questions. I think I’ve found that the toughest part of this journey but try and focus on the positives. You are young which means your eggs should be good quality and you have every chance that IVF will work for you.
I’m currently pregnant with my second little miracle, it might not have been a easy ride but there is so much support here for the next steps on your journey ♥️ Xx
This is such a lovely encouraging message, thank you❤️Congratulations on your second pregnancy, how exciting! Gives me lots of hope for my journey ahead. Thank you for replying x
Hi Mlove. There is always a small chance, as the others have said. Make sure you have regular sex every 3 days or more often if you want. Perhaps seek a fertility consultation? Make sure you are eating a sensible and varied diet and remember to take your Folic Acid and Vitamin D. Good luck! Diane
Hi.Has your partner been tested on more than one occasion? Male infertility is often under investigated and I would consider further tests in this respect especially as you have regular periods. I think DNA fragmentation is often recommended but something to discuss with the consultant.
Low AMH means lower egg reserve but at your age they quality should be good. Presume you have had a HSG or scan to check your fallopian tubes? Some believe acupuncture can help build the endometrium lining and improve the flow in a natural cycle.
He has been checked once r. e analysis, his numbers were really good all round (which as a guy, you can imagine how big headed he got about that!). We are being referred for IVF so im assuming they will check again or is that not the normal procedure?
I have had my tubes checked and all was fine apparently so thats good, just feel a bit meh with it all! Thank you for responding
Hi. I don't have personal experience of this but I have read stories where the male has high DNA fragmentation in spite of normal sperm parameters. Obviously this may not be the case, but it is something to bear in mind. I think it is advised to check sperm more than once but I would discuss with your consultant.
