LOCI trial…6 weeks pregnant

Hi all! So I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of the LOCI trial for the past 6 months with Coventry hospital…and after a rough few months of feeling awful, being prodded every week, finding out I’ve actually got PCOS, a uterine septum and super low progesterone, I’ve actually got pregnant on the last month of the trial!

Firstly, is anyone else on the trial? Secondly…I wasn’t expecting to feel THIS awful! I feel constantly so sick, tired, generally really unwell. I’ve also got cramping which is stressing me out. I have a scan on the 20th but can’t help but freak out about everything that may go wrong.

Hey congratulations! It’s always scary in the beginning and waiting for that scan but what I can tell you is- it’s GREAT that you feel so awful. That’s what everyone told me. Basically the risk of miscarriage drops when you have morning sickness - it means that your HCG will be pretty high and that’s good. Not that there aren’t women out there who don’t get it and have healthy pregnancy but it’s a very known symptom of a healthy pregnancy and the stats speak for themselves. As for cramps don’t worry about that either. As long as there’s no blood it’s just your womb accommodating the growing embryo. Get ginger biscuits and a lot of drive- it’s going to be a rough next 6 weeks.

Thank you! I’ll be glad when the 20th rolls along and I get this scan just for reassurance! I am trying hard to carry on as usual but not going to lie, struggling! I also haven’t told anyone as we want to have the first scan before we do, but I’m. It sure I can hide it from work or mum because I feel so crap!

I’m 15 weeks now and only told everyone else after I’d had a good 12 week scan (I’ve been burnt before) but told my mum after the viability scan. Working from home was my life saver - I did one workshop day where I chomped on fruit to stave the sickness - mostly I’d finish teams calls and go and chuck up down the loo. It’s not fun at all but I’m through the other side now.

I’m planning to tell my parents and closest after we’ve had the scan (it will be 7 weeks and 6 days) but then wait until after 12 weeks for others. Work is the hardest because I feel so rough but I know even if I tell my manager it’ll be round the office in no time! I haven’t physically been sick yet, just dry heaving and feeling like death. Are you still getting sick at 15 weeks?

No, although I still have acid reflux and an awful lot of bloating and trapped wind (but my stomach is never good anyway). Oh that’s a shame. I could have told my manager early but he wouldn’t have told anyone and he still hasn’t. I felt sick all day to start; it seemed to ease up on weekends and start again worse on the Monday. By week nine I was chucking up daily but I seemed to feel more human after that. And it trailed off in week 11.

Hi and congratulations on your pregnancy! I have PCOS too and am pregnant with my second baby. I also was followed by Coventry hospital. You can private message me if you need any advice, reassurance. Morning sickness does suck but it will soon subside. I hope you receive some reassuring news at your next scan.

Hi Peaster. Well done for going through with the trial, and of course for success. It could be the fact that apart from any metfomin that is used, the drugs work on the pituitary gland in the brain, so could be responsible for the rotten feeling. The metformin can upset your tummy, so is often better tollerated in a slow release form. Not long until you meet your little "bean". Diane

Hi Diane. Yes I’ve been quite poorly on the trial suffering with a very upset tummy. I think my body has just come round and got used to it when I found out I’m pregnant! I need to carry on with the tablets because of the PCOS and progesterone but fingers crossed everything will be ok.
