A girl I know is very upset, she is 44 and had previously got 6 embryo tested 1 came back good. It was frozen about 2 months ago. On there way up to the clinic for transfer, they got a call that the embryo didn't survive the thaw.
They don't know if it was the clinic messing up as they made a mistake before when adding the sperm instead of 1 added 2 and an embryo wasn't created, that the clinic messed up on.
She doesn't know if she should go again or what to do and what caused this to happen and will it happen again. Any help please🙏

Hi, in my first round we had an embryo which didn’t survive the thaw. It was really disappointing. Although you don’t hear about it that often, it can and does happen and I doubt it was as a result of anything the clinic did. She could ask them a little bit more about the embryo. For example with our embryo I remember the clinic telling me that it wasn’t expanding as they would have expected. And so it would never have been viable.
Since that embryo, I had 2 other transfers and have had no issues with thaws xxx
It is such such hard news to take. The same thing happened to me yesterday and it felt like someone had kicked me in the gut. I was shocked still am as it was one of our better embryos of the 4 we had remaining.
It’s not usually down to anything the clinic have done it’s just some embryos can become lazy once they have been in the freezer and they are just not strong enough. Luckily I still had a transfer of one of my other Frosties but I still feel like I’ve lost one of my baby’s. 😢
I really am sorry to say this is normal as ivf is all a numbers game and unfortunately embryos are lost in the process at times. Sending your friends lots of hugs and hopefully she can have her transfer with another one of her Frosties xxx
as the other said, it can happen, and it's usually nothing to do with the clinic. That said, if your friend doesn't trust the clinic anymore, she has still the option to try another one. In a process like IVF, trust is key to avoid regrets.
