Not recommended for IVF - advice?

Hi there, my doctor will not recommend me for IVF. And I’ve been told that having a tube removed could help natural chances. So I’m on a 6month waiting list. It concludes nearly two years of investigations. I am 39 with only one year of nhs funding for future treatment. I don’t know where to look for someone to offer more consultation or better explanation, but am desperate for advice or support. Does anyone have any experience or something similar? Or private consultations for second opinion? Thanks so much, Ax

Wow am so sorry youve been met with that option. I’d be seeing another doctor! I ended up having both tubes removed age 36/37ish and wasn’t entitled to nhs funding but if I was I’d of pushed for it. Advocate for yourself lovely. I wouldn’t be very happy either. The waiting times are horrendous atm I’ve just paid private to have a cyst drained which would of been covered by the nhs. But with my age I can’t wait around to have a cyst drained! It pained us to pay out as well as the fet cycle. We didn’t have the really have the money. Much love and strength to you 💕

Thanks so much for your feedback. It is difficult to be in limbo. Even a consultation with a little more time so I could understand better, would be helpful. It’s all quite confusing. I’m sorry you’ve had such a difficult personal experience. And financing is so tough too. I hope your recovering from your cyst. Take care, Ax

Hi hun. I'm really sorry to hear that your Dr won't recommend you for IVF. Did they give you much information as to what that decision was based on? Is your other tube that would remain all in working order?

I've had both tubes removed after having 3 ectopic pregnancies, with the last one done when I was 28. They did say that the tube that was damaged from a previous ectopic was causing issues getting pregnant and staying pregnant as it was creating a back flow of fluid that could stop an embryo implanting.

Fingers crossed you can get your op done in next 6 months and it might make all the difference for you getting pregnant naturally 🙏.

Wishing you all the best my lovely 💕xX

Thanks so much. As I understand, it’s a combination - my AMH levels and chance rate is so low that it’s unlikely I would respond to stimulation and therefore egg retrieval? And my other tube is okay - but my reserves aren’t good. I’m sure it all medically makes sense - it’s just very confusing to absorb. I am so sorry it’s been such a difficult journey for you. I can’t imagine how tough that must have been physically and emotionally. Thank you for being so kind. Wishing you all the best too and good health xx

I’m so sorry, can you afford to go private? Bit of a blunt question but if you go private IVF you can self refer and just crack on, but appreciate it’s not always financially viable for everyone. Good luck x

Thanks, yes - we may look at that in spite of costs - if it helps move anything along at all. Tricky starting again but will keep trying. Thanks so much, Ax

Hi. Unfortunately the NHS usually has a cut off and AMH is often a criteria. Do you know your AMH? There are finance packages with some private clinics or companies such as Access Fertility which offer packages. Worth signing up for some webinars for clinics you might be interested in. Wishing you well x

Have you checked the criteria in your area for IVF on the NHS? In my area the cut off age is 35 to be eligible so this may be the reason? The doctor should've explained though. I would do your research and then as others have said you can crack on privately if you need to. Good luck! x

I’d have a look at a well known clinic that only does natural and natural modified IVF- they treat women with AMH so low that the NHS won’t accept them. Obviously there is a cost to going private but if you do natural IVF it’s much much cheaper than conventional IVF

Hi love.I was also turned away by the NHS due to my low AMH (0.6 Pmol) - basically they believe that my chances are so low that they won’t spend NHS funding on a lost hope. To be blunt!

I had no other options than to go private. No children and 36 years old, so who knows how long I have to try.

I had a laparoscopy to remove unknown endo and my private clinic wanted to test my amh afterwards, which showed that my AMH has gone up to 1.2 Pmol (doubled).

I don’t know if this new number changes my funding situation with the NHS, but I’m not going back to ask anyway, as the whole NHS process is so slow and impersonal that I’d rather stick with my private clinic, who are moving at pace and looking at the whole picture.

It costs a lot, but in my short experience so far, I can say with confidence that you get what you pay for! The NHS missed so many problems that my private consultant picked up with a follicle scan.

If you have a clear-cut problem and the NHS can help, then push for it. But if you don’t have time on your side, then opt for the quickest route if you can afford it.

Best of luck 💕 x
