First scan at 7+5: Slow heartbeat and baby measuring 5mm ๐Ÿ˜”

So we had a first scan today and the doctor seemed concerned while she was doing the scan, I could see it in her eyes something was not right.

She told us that the baby is measuring small and she heartbeat is very slow. We have another scan booked in 12 days which feels like a lifetime. Is there any hope or am I having another miscarriage?

I'm sorry that you are going through this. I think if your baby was implanted a few days later than expected (my daughter probably implanted 2-3 days later than expected, apparently this happens to FETs) that could explain the smaller size and slower heartbeat. I pray that everything will work out.

Not sure it can happen with a 5 day fresh transfer, but thank you!

So sorry the scan has put you in such terrible limbo ๐Ÿฅฒ I understand after a previous miscarriage it must be so terrifying for you ( I've had 4 losses myself) I hope the baby "catches up " by the next scan. It's awful you have to wait so long for another one & hope you can find ways to pass the time. I would say until you know for sure it's definitely over try to be hopeful ( I understand that must be extremely difficult) I will keep everything crossed for you Xx

Thank you and sorry for your losses. Iโ€™m not sure if I should go anywhere else for a scan earlier, Iโ€™d like to know how slow the heartbeat is. But I guess it doesnโ€™t make much sense x

Thank you. Bless it must be incredibly difficult for I feel for you. Also very sorry for your miscarriage they are devastating to go through & make another pregnancy very anxious. My hospital also don't tell you the actual heartbeat rate. I think by giving you 12 days is giving that baby the best chance to catch up- they have to be certain it is a life after all. My personal experience of private scan is awful and with my last miscarriage they couldn't diagnose at all - just offered me a referral to EPU ( who I had an appointment with anyway ) they don't seem very well medically trained and they rushed through it. They are more baby photographers- I ended up with more uncertainty than I went in with! Give me the NHS every time. Even if it's a longer wait. I would advise to wait for the NHS I know it's a long wait and the uncertainty is awful for you but don't think a private scan would give you a diagnosis they tend to refer you to EPU if there is any issue. Your decision ( that's just my opinion) you must do what is right for you Xx

Your clinic shouldn't withhold this info if you call and ask what the heart rate was, might be worth a try.

It was with NHS and they did not measure it unfortunately.

Iโ€™m so sorry FrancyItaly, really hope that little bean catches up. I know the next 12 days are going to be tough, there was a heartbeat, try and focus on that for now to get you through. Sending a big hug xxxx

So sorry to hear this, thinking of you. This limbo time is the worst. I went through a similar experience last summer. Sadly ours didnโ€™t pick up and we had a missed miscarriage. But I have heard plenty of stories when the baby has caught up. Itโ€™s impossible, but just try to get through each day. Keep up with your meds and eating nutritious food. Reach out for counselling with the clinic if they have any available. Weโ€™re all thinking of you and wish there was more we could do xx

Really sorry to hear this difficult news, Francesca. Your baby is alive and the heartbeat is there and I am keeping everything crossed that all will be okay with your little one at the next scan. I know 12 days is going to feel like a really long time, and I'll be thinking of you. Sending lots of love. xxxxxxxxx

Wow they just said it was slow and didnโ€™t tell you the bpm thatโ€™s nerve racking! I think your healthcare professionals should have handled that better! I will keep you in my prayers!

Definitely! Maybe it was that slow there was no point to even measure. Thank you!
