Egg freezing after 40

Good morning everyone.

This might be a strange question but i thought i would ask anyways.

I have a 6 months old baby and i am currently nursing. I am also very soon 42.

Do i have any chance if i try to freeze my own eggs at this advanced age ( son conceived naturally after about 1 year TTC and one miscarriage) and can i attempt collecting eggs for freezing while breastfeeding?

I have been told fertility after 40 is better naturally, that the majority of eggs are not good but the body naturally selects the right eggs so your chances Are relatively higher if you try naturally ..

Also, egg retrieval would prob give poorer results while breastfeeding..

I would like to possibly try for another but i am already so old and i am so worried it will br nearly impossible if i don't do something to preserve my eggs ..

Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance

I'm not sure if this is helpful at all but from what I've understood embryos tend to freeze more successfully than eggs, so if you did go ahead with an egg collection the clinic might suggest fertalizing them, culturing the embryos to day 5 and freezing at that point. I'm really sorry I don't know about collecting eggs while breast feeding.

All the best of luck

😊

Hi I’m 42 and had 2 completely failed rounds with my own eggs, the third round my younger sister was our donor and I’m currently 26 weeks.

At our advanced age our eggs are pretty useless, we have about a 5% chance or less of being successful - you would need to go many rounds potentially to find that lucky egg

I agree with IVFat40 there is no point freezing eggs alone it’s a big risk

Hi Azzurra. Something to talk over thoroughly with your special;ist. Most clinics will not freeze eggs from someone over 35 years of age, as they tend not to be such goof quality. They then have to be thawed , and fertilised, so a lot to go thjrough with older eggs. i think you would find that most clinics would advise youn to fertilise your eggs and store the embryos - my thoughts. Obviously I wish youwell with whatever you do decide. Diane

I think at this point they will only freeze embryos not eggs. As already mentioned above, 35 is the cut off age for egg freezing.
