Hoping to hear Success stories for C grade day 5 Blastocysts…?

Hello all,

I had IVF in august 2019. I was fortunate to get three day 5 Blastocysts from this round. One grade A and two grade C’s. The grade A gave me a BFP after a successful FET in October 2019 and my baby girl arrived in July 2020. As my little girl just turned one, we have decided to try for a sibling with the frozen blastocysts from our round with her.

I’m on day one today so I guess the FET will be around the 30th of this month?? I’m just hoping to hear success stories with C grades to be honest. I was so lucky to have it work first time and get my little girl but she was an A grade. I read somewhere that the grades don’t really matter and if the blasts are strong enough to freeze / thaw then they are good enough to create healthy pregnancies?

Thanks in advance …

Hi Helen, I must admit I’ve been stalking your post to see if anyone replies.. I’m sorry you’ve not had a response! I’m in a similar boat as you, we’re just about to transfer a grade C 5 day blastocyst and I’m thinking about the chances as it is a lower grade..

My consultant was really reassuring and said that the embryologist wouldn’t have frozen the blastocyst unless it had a good chance of working. They change so rapidly in the early stages it can go from a C grade to an A grade in a very short space of time. I’m going into this transfer with that trust and if it survives the thaw then it’s a hardy little bean!

Wishing you all the best and fingers crossed for us both ✨🤞🏼🐣

Thanks for replying! I did think that the clinic wouldn’t have frozen them if they didn’t have a good chance. It’s a private clinic and I feel like freezing blastocysts that are not likely to work isn’t good for their stats. . . I have to go with it as we only have two grade C’s left.

Good luck to you! Please keep me posted 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Yes will do! We just had our lining check which was fine so transfer booked for 24th. I asked again about C grades and she was very reassuring. She really encouraged us not to overthink the grading as it’s just a tool for the embryologists to use to put them in an order. You can have a perfect AA that is chromosomally abnormal and a C grade that is normal. They also change minute by minute so the grading can change rapidly. Have a great week ahead :) x

That does make me feel more positive! Thank you! I’m only on day 2 of my cycle so haven’t got a transfer date yet but my guess would be around the 28th - 30th … fingers crossed for us both 🤞🏻🤞🏻 x

Grading is very much point in time to allow the embryologists to prioritise embryos however the reality is no one knows what happens after day 5 and one could slow down the other could improve.

If its any help my sister had 8 transfers in the end. Her best embryos were transferred first and they got progressively worse as she went along. Her final 3 embryos were Grade C and lower and 2 were transferred and she had her son on round 7, and then her very last very worst one was transferred round 8 and she had her daughter.

So you have every chance to get pregnant again and at least your body knows what its doing now!

Good luck x

Hi HelenJudi, sorry no advice but thanks for posting the question.. I also have only 2 grade Cs in the freezer. The embryologist didn’t sound as convinced about them but the Dr was very reassuring. I haven’t got to transferring them yet but hoping to feel more positive about the situation from the replies. Will you do a double or single transfer? For the first time they are letting me consider double as I’m 41, but also have an Ivf baby 3yrs ago, so the goal has always been to avoid twins. Good luck xxx

Hello… I had hoped to do a double but that’s not an option for me, I’m assuming because I’m 34 (?) and my last FET was successful? I really don’t know but the forms only have the option of single transfer. I’m like you though in that I would like to avoid twins and just hope for a single healthy pregnancy 🤞🏻 good luck to you too when the time comes! xx

Hi HelenJudi. Your embryologist would not store embryos if he/she thought they weren't viable. Good luck! Diane

Hi Helen, My final embryo of four, which was low grade (although I don't know the grade because my clinic don't tell their patients), was transferred in early June it worked. I knew the grading wasn't great, so just decided not to focus on that, as other posters have said, if an embryo is frozen and survives the thaw it has a chance. Best of luck with it. X
