I haven’t been on here for a while as been trying to sort my head out after going through 6 cycles of fertility treatments with 5 pregnancies which sadly all ended in miscarriage then my hubby and I got married 2 years ago, I am now 44 and my hubby is 54 time is so not on our side 🥺 last November I decided to go to a different fertility clinic to have a 3D scan of my Womb which was fine no problems just that the fibroid I know I have had since starting this journey had grown and it’s been causing painful periods and ovulation the consultant thinks that is what’s been causing the miscarriages and thinks I should get it removed so my GP referred me to a gynaecologist who disagreed with the consultant and doesn’t think it has caused the miscarriages I feel so confused and so alone 🥺😢
So sorry for the long post. xx

I’m so sorry to read of all you’ve gone through, I can’t imagine experiencing five losses 💔
Have you had further tests to explore the reason for miscarriage? Blood clotting disorders, thyroid issues, thyroid antibodies, immune tests (NK cells), genetic issues (karyotype test) to name a few? Was your progesterone checked with each pregnancy? There was a study via Tommy’s called the Prism study that found lower progesterone levels were linked to miscarriage too.
Although a lot of the time they say it’s a chromosome abnormality, there are other reasons that sadly lead to miscarriage such as some I mention above.
If you’ve a fibroid, then it’s probably worth getting removed regardless if it’s causing you painful periods. I don’t know much about them, but I think I’d sway with the way the fertility consultant would want me to as they’re the experts when it comes to fertility.
There is a guy called Sir Robert Winston who also specialises in fertility and IVF, you’ve probably heard of him. I went there looking for answers with each of my unsuccessful transfers, and there’s lots of information available on his site - genesisresearchtrust.com/as... - if you scroll through the questions, there may be something suggestive in there. Just to caveat, sometimes I find him quite blunt which I’m a sensitive mood doesn’t always wash well!
Sending you lots of positivity and support 🍀🌈💗 xxx
I have low AMH and a blood clotting disorder so on our 3rd pregnancy and onwards I was on blood thinners and Progesterone injections all tests were done and all came back fine, the furthest I have carried is 10 weeks 5 days.
The gynaecologist consultant said they could remove the fibroid but doesn’t think it will help regarding the miscarriages and where the fibroid is they will have to go through my belly worse case it could go the other way and then that will mean them doing a hysterectomy if it goes well I wouldn’t be able to get pregnant for 6-9 months as my womb would need to heel.
I also have Haemochromatosis so have to keep that in mind so I will suffer what ever I do. 💕 xx
That is really frustrating to have the second consultant disagree with the fertility consultant. I had a similar issue where I was referred for polyp investigation and removal and the gynae doing the hysteroscopy refused to remove it, meaning I had to have a second one a few months later. The best you can do is ask to see another gynae who will remove it for you. xx
