I just saw a high risk obgyn today and he as put in a request for me to start seeing a pediatrician Cariologist. Is this normal for any of you ladies that has or is pregnant now with twins? 🤔
Nothing is wrong with my twins but he stated that babies born through ivf have higher risk of developing heart problems.
I just feel like everytime i go to a doctor, i am recommend to see another one. I am bridge between my normal obgyn + high risk Obgyn . I saw one today now i am seeing the other tomorrow.# getting overwhelming #

Hey, I cant comment on the cardiologist part and I'm not sure if you are in the UK or not but I was put under a Specialist Fetal Medicine Consultant for my care instead of a regular Obs & Gynae Dr due to being IVF twins (which is high risk alongside being a bit older) just seems to be normal protocol at my hospital. Sounds like if they havent found anything wrong (which they would surely have to tell you) then it's just their "normal" protocol so try not to worry and think if it as you are getting the best care there is. All the best.xx
Thank you for your reply. I was put under the special fetal medicine consultant as well and he was the one who recommended the cardiologist today. I thought he would just be with him for high risk but they still have me seeing the normal obgyn. I think i am just overwhelmed by all these doctors appointments. I have to be using an appointment book to keep up. I also have a vasculitis autoimmune disease so that is why i need the other doctors incased i have flare-up and need steriods. I am living in the US by the way. These are the specialist i am seeing
It might be something more "American" that you have lots of specialists on your care team. The NHS in the UK is pretty good but they definitley dont over refer you to specialists unless there is an indicated reason. Like I said try to think of it as a positive, you will have a great team of Drs on your side and able to cater to your every need....if required and if they are being over cautious then so be it, it's better than the other way and not feeling looked after which is sometimes what can happen after IVF in the UK!! All the best.xxx
Not to worry you, but likely the specialist saw something that was a little unusual. Go to appointment (presumably for a fetal echo), but before you go I would press the maternal fetal specialist referring you for the reason why they're referring you so you can ask good questions. Be aware that they can only see the really big things via U/S and fetal echos (i.e. the scarier stuff), so often they'll recommend you to come back within a week or 2 post delivery to look for more stuff. So don't worry if they say things are OK now but want to see you back post-delivery - this is typical.
I've been through this on multiple levels...feel free to PM me...
I had twins in January - they had an extra heart scan but only because often with 2 in there it can be difficult to see everything and often isn’t enough time within the allotted NHS appointment - could this be what your referral is for?
I was also under a specialist twins clinic - not because they were IVF - just because it was twins and then due to one twin measuring very small I was seen by a specialist Foetal Medicine Centre
