OH had varicoele surgery as a teen and has no motility/morphological issues but we want to check for dna fragmentation following our 3 failed cycles (I’m also having immune tests & thrombophilia screening). Our clinic doesn’t offer this service - has anyone else had this done at a different clinic to the one they are registered at? And if so, can you DM the details of who you used?

Luckily my clinic do all of these tests - I’m not sure where you are in the country - my clinics in London if that’s helpful to you let me know and I’ll DM you
Hi lovely, the sperm COMET test is the most well-regarded dna fragmentation test. You can find a list of clinics that offer it here: examenlab.com/about-us/part...
My guess is that any clinic will do the test for you, regardless of where you’re registered. Also, if you're willing to drive a bit you may want to compare prices between several nearby clinics. The test is £500 at my nearest clinic but £350 if I'm willing to drive to one a bit further away. xx
Happy to travel! Will be glad of the adventure at the moment! Hahaha. Were you accepted to the clinic without being a patient? We’re in a situation of being tied to an excellent clinic (based on results) through a prepaid package - but the clinic don’t do all the tests we want, so we need to get them done elsewhere. Spoke to a clinic earlier who will only take us for the comet test if we pay for a consultation! I’m just want a test and results to take back with us
What bizarre times we’re in where the prospect of a road trip to a different fertility clinic counts as adventure! 🤣🤣My clinic offers the test so I haven’t (yet) tried going to one where we’re not registered. However, my husband is going to get a follow-up test done soon and I was planning to go to the less expensive clinic where we’re not registered, so I’ll find out soon!
That seems a bit dodgy that the clinic wants you to pay for a consult before doing the test…seems unnecessary. Can you ask your clinic to ring the other clinic and request the test for you so that you can get around the consultation issue? They might waive it if they know you’re under the care of another clinic xx
Would the other clinic not accept a letter from your clinic saying you want these tests done that they don’t offer?!
I agree with soccorkt6 it sounds a bit much that they want a consultation with you?! I think that just goes to show yet again it’s a money making business as a consultation will cost about £250 and for what?! Them to say you want these tests done?!
I think if the clinic you’ve contacted don’t want to do them move onto another one
I contacted two clinics this morning. One big chain with clinics across UK and they wanted to charge £230 for consultation before the test (£540) and a second local clinic who weren’t doing the test for non-patients at the moment (poss. Covid related?). I will finding other clinics using the tool you suggested (we’re based in the north). We had the same with the immune tests - some wanted to charge £200 for a consultation before running tests (despite our doctor writing a recommendation!) until we found one that didn’t. Xxx it’s all money isn’t it? X
It totally is all money!! It makes me sick!! The amount of people sitting in waiting rooms now then when we first started, yet the prices go up year on year?! The trouble is they’ve got couples by the short and curlies because if you don’t pay they don’t treat you end of!!
Why?! If it wasn’t money driven it wouldn’t need to!!
A parallel example is a new drug that’s brought out will be very expensive to start with, but once more and more people use it the price comes down
